Lane Powell Spears Lubersky

Michael Runyan, a partner in the Seattle law firm of Lane Powell Spears Lubersky, has been elected to the Defense Research Institute board of directors, representing the Northwest region. The three-year term starts in October.

Country Companies

Country Companies Insurance Group has named Shawn Webb agency manager for the Everett agency. Webb started with the company in 1997 in the Bellevue agency.

Macrosearch/Macrostaff

Beth Strand has joined the Lacey office of Macrosearch/Macrostaff, a high tech recruiting and contract placement firm. She moves from the Macrosearch Bellevue office.

V.A. Pickens

Valerie Pickens, a CPA from Seattle, recently completed a course on construction contractors through the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, which furthers the knowledge of CPAs about construction accounting. She is the manager of V.A. Pickens LLC of Seattle and has practiced in the city for over 10 years.

Hagen Kurth Perman

The Seattle accounting firm of Hagen, Kurth Perman & Co. is expanding its business to include specialized family and owner-managed business planning. The firm will help business owners with exit strategies. The firm also announced several promotions: Kyle Edberg to supervisor in tax services, Marsha Baklund to supervisor in tax services, Carrie Jo Adams to supervising senior in tax services and Joshua Drenckpohl to senior with a tax specialty focus.

Betts Patterson

Andrew Cratsenberg has been hired at Betts Patterson Mines law firm as an associate attorney specializing in real estate litigation and land use. He was formerly staff attorney with Sundquist Homes. Jessica Fleck has also joined the firm as staff attorney, practicing primarily in commercial litigation.

Heller Ehrman

Heller Ehrman White & McAuliffe announced that Patricia H. Wagner is newly elected to the American Law Institute. The institute was established in 1923 to promote clarification of the law and adapting it better to social needs. Members are chosen based on achievement and demonstrated interest in improving the law.

GeoEngineers

Linda Herington and Sharae Snyder have been hired by Redmond-based GeoEngineers as corporate marketing assistants.

Shannon & Wilson

Susan Chang has joined Shannon & Wilson, a geotechnical and environmental consulting firm in Seattle, as principal engineer. Chang has designed foundations for numerous buildings, bridges and roadways, primarily in New York and California. Prior to joining Shannon & Wilson, she was a professor of civil and environmental engineering at Washington State University.

Cary Kopczynski & Co.

Panos Trochalakis, a civil engineer, has been promoted to project manager at Cary Kopczynski & Co., a Bellevue-based structural engineering firm. Trochalakis is currently managing design of the Lakeview Commons Retirement Center, a 25-story senior housing facility in downtown Bellevue. He has been involved in the design of Westlake Tower, a 32-story mixed use building in downtown Seattle, and Metropolitan North, an 11-story office building also in downtown Seattle.

R.W. Beck

Donna Pocanovksy and Diane Robertson have joined R.W. Beck to work on the firm's water resources and regional water systems projects. Pocanovksy comes to R.W. Beck, an engineering-based consulting firm in Seattle, from another Northwest consulting engineering firm. Before joining R.W. Beck, Robertson, a civil and environmental engineer, worked for the World Bank.

Reid Middleton

Andrew Stember has been named by Reid Middleton to head the firm's new office in Portland as the regional manager for Oregon. Stember's primary responsibilities include regional market development as well as project management, structural engineering, plan review and building inspection. Prior to joining Reid Middleton, Stember, a structural engineer, was director of building safety services division at Austin, Texas-based BJY Inc. Reid Middleton, a structural and civil engineering firm, is based in Everett.

Roth Hill Engineering

Rebecca Saur has joined Roth Hill Engineering Partners in Bellevue as a project assistant and clerical coordinator. Saur will provide engineering and marketing assistance, administrative support, reprographics and word processing.

Space

Judith Heerwagen has joined Space, an international consulting and architectural firm with an office in Seattle, as the director of research. Heerwagen, formerly with Battelle Northwest, is an environmental psychologist who researches workplace productivity. She received her doctorate in psychology from the University of Washington and continues to serve there as a member of the graduate faculty. Also joining Space is Martin Farach, who will be the firm's lead facility planner for laboratory and biotech projects.

Leisure Care

Gary St. Arnaud has joined Bellevue-based Leisure Care as vice president of construction. His new job includes assembling and managing the technical resources needed to design and build senior housing communities. He has nearly 30 years of industry experience and holds a civil engineering degree from the University of New Brunswick. Prior to joining Leisure Care, St. Arnaud worked for Madison Homes as executive vice president. Leisure Care operates 29 retirement communities in the western part of the country.

Canyon Creek Cabinet

Canyon Creek Cabinet Co. has hired Doug Chadwick as its vice president of sales and marketing. Chadwick has over 25 years of experience in the building products industry, including 11 years with kitchen cabinet maker Starmark. Canyon Creek makes cabinets for the residential contractor and dealer markets. It is an independent operating unit of Beltecno Industries, a maker of kitchen and industrial products headquartered in Nagoya, Japan.
