Carllene M. Placide has joined the law firm of Lane Powell Spears Lubersky in Seattle as a labor and employment law associate. She attended Seattle University School of Law and Cornell University.
Bruce Sturgeon is the new clinical dean of the Northwest Institute of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. He was formerly clinical director of oriental medicine and chair of the Herbal Medicine Department at the New York College for Wholistic Health Education and Research in Syosset, N.Y. He will direct all operations of the in-house teaching clinic and oversee the network of 13 community clinics in the Seattle area.
Inter-Tel Technologies of Phoenix has purchased Seattle-based Matrix Telecommunications. Matrix began operations in 1978, offering telecommunications solutions to over 3,000 clients. Revenues in the last year were over $8 million. Inter-Tel is a provider of digital business telephone systems and other communications services. Matrix's 65 associates will integrate into the Inter-Tel organization. The company plans to expand its sales and technical staff.
Schwabe, Williamson & Wyatt has added Joseph E. 'Jay' O'Brien as a member of the employment relations practice group, with a specialty in health care client services.
Boxlight Corp., the Poulsbo-based distributor of presentation equipment, services and training, has promoted Kirk Punches to Web manager. He will oversee the Web site sales and marketing and maintain the company's Web site at BOXLIGHT.com.
Joseph Deely has been appointed general manager of Gray Line of Seattle. He was chief operating officer of Amtrak's western region and general manager of Amtrak's California corridor.

Pacific Northwest Title of Kitsap County, which is marking nine years in business, recently moved into a new building at 9927 Mickelberry Road in Silverdale, company President Chris Rieland said.
Qpoint Home Mortgage Network has announced the addition of three new managers. Susan Chun has been hired as vice president of mortgage banking; certified public accountant Harry Chesman is the new corporate controller; and Michele Petosa is the new director of learning performance and quality assurance. Chun has 24 years' experience in mortgage banking and most recently was regional operations manager for the Washington office of MGIC. Chesman has 25 years' experience in financial administration and worked for more than 10 years as vice president corporate controller for a large East Coast mortgage banking firm. Petosa came from Washington Mutual Bank where she worked for 13 years, most recently as an assistant vice president of training in the Southern California region.
Equity Office Properties Trust, the nation's largest publicly owned office building owner with substantial holdings in the Puget Sound region, has introduced a simplified lease document it calls FasTrack. It will be used as the basis for all of EOP's future lease transactions. With 10 to 15 percent of leases rolling over annually, EOP expects to use FasTrack on more than 8 million square feet of office space per year. An EOP official said the document was created in response to feedback from the company's customer advisory board.
Jonathan M. Pearlstein has joined the Seattle office of the law firm Schwabe, Williamson & Wyatt as a member of the real estate practice group. Pearlstein was formerly vice president and general counsel for Cucina! Cucina! Inc., a Bellevue-based restaurant chain. The law firm is the second largest in Oregon and one of the top 10 in the Pacific Northwest.
Mike Roy and John Hanson have joined Trammell Crow Co.'s Southend brokerage team. Both had been with CB Richard Ellis. Roy specializes in leasing and sales of office and industrial properties in Pierce and South King counties. He has been involved in more than $75 million worth of transactions and was recognized as a top producer the last two years. Hanson specializes in leasing and sales of Kent Valley and Pierce County industrial spaces.
Nick Paget joined the Seattle office of Colliers International as a commercial real estate agent. He specializes in industrial leasing and sales. He is a graduate of the University of Washington where he received a bachelor's degree in economics.
D. Scott R. Mackay is a new assistant project manager at Harbor Properties. He will work on Harbor Steps North, Carpenters Tower, Stevens Pass Daylodge and Site 17 North. He will also focus on new project acquisition, permitting and research. A lawyer, he worked as a contract attorney with Preston Gates & Ellis and moved to the commercial real estate appraisal firm of Wronsky Gibbons & Riely, where he worked the last three years.
Keith Bridges has been named vice president at Immunex Corp. He was most recently director of medical science liaisons at Immunex. Bridges will now be in charge of Enbrel commercial operations and health care policy, and will continue to direct medical science liaisons.
Altus Casualty Co. of Bellevue has changed its name to Montlake Casualty Co. The specialty workers' compensation carrier began operations earlier this year. The new refers to the Montlake ship canal and reflects the firm's Northwest regional roots, according to executive vice president, Larry Riggs. The company focuses on industries such as ship repair and ship building, offshore oil and bridge construction.
The non-profit restaurant Boomtown Cafe will open in September thanks to support from several community organizations. More than $100,000 in grants were received from the city of Seattle, Boeing Employees Community Fund, the Wood Family Foundation and the Seattle Foundation. Located at 513 Third Ave., the Boomtown will serve nutritious meals for the cost of the ingredients, $2 or less. Food stamps or bartered labor will be accepted as payment. Aegis Assisted Living in Redmond named Lesley Yanak as the new director of Start Up for Aegis. She was formerly acquisitions manager for Alterra. Aegis plans to build 35 to 40 quality-oriented assisted-living communities in the western U.S. in the next five years.
Kimberly Hill, former anchorwoman on KSTW-TV, has signed on as an associate with Subert Gregory & Woodstrom, a Mercer Island-based advertising and public relations firm. She was anchor and reporter for the Ten O'Clock News.
Edelman Public Relations Worldwide/Seattle has hired four new staff people. Beth Gillespie and Cecile Cheung are new account executives and Michelle Tseng and Megan Goodson are new assistant account executives.
CyPost Corp., a Delaware-based provider of Internet privacy and protection solutions, has solidified its presence in the Seattle and Western Washington area with the purchase of Internet service provider Connect Northwest. The cash value of the acquisition is $1.4 million.
Shelley Whittingham has joined Windermere as a sales associate in the Seattle Capitol Hill office. She previously worked as an English teacher and was an opera singer in France.
