CDi Mechanical Engineers of Lynnwood has hired three new staff members. Mike Taylor has approximately 15 years of experience and is currently working on additions and renovations at the University of Washington/Cascadia Community College Bothell Campus. Taylor's past projects cover medical, military and higher education facilities. New in the marketing department at CDi, Lauri Jordana brings ten years' marketing experience to the firm. Jordana supports the firm's marketing director by managing media relations and other communications. Steven Rainbow joins CDi with six years of mechanical engineering experience. Rainbow is currently working on the Jefferson Street Front Entry Pavilion at Providence Seattle Medical Center, incorporating an underground parking facility, a central atrium and a new clinical addition. Other projects include the City of Seattle Municipal Courthouse as well as work at Olympic College. Prior to joining CDi, Rainbow's work involved public facilities and commercial offices.
BOORA Architects of Portland has added three more to its staff, bringing the firm's total to 99. Katy de Ville is the interior designer for the $50 million National Underground Railroad Freedom Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. She rejoins BOORA after spending two years with Zimmer Gunsul Frasca in Portland. Her previous work with BOORA includes Seattle University Center and renovations at the Arlington Club and expansion to offices for Davis Wright Tremaine in Portland. She is a graduate of the University of Oregon. An architect with 12 years of experience, Jon McGrew joins BOORA's team for the new 1,800-student North Clackamas High School project. McGrew has worked on education facilities, laboratory and medical centers, institutional buildings, cinemas and restaurants. Prior to BOORA, he worked with the Portland firms of SRG Partnership, Dull Olson Weekes Architects and WPH Architecture respectively. McGrew earned his bachelor's degree in architecture from the University of Oregon. Chad Schmidt joins BOORA's team for a mixed-use housing and retail project in northwest Portland. Prior to BOORA, Schmidt worked for three years with the Portland firm Mahlum Architects. His project experience includes medical and corporate office buildings, an aviation maintenance facility and an elementary school. Schmidt graduated with a bachelor's degree in architecture from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater.
Doyen and Assoc. of Chicago has named Michael Fleming and Kanna Meyyappan as managers of West Coast operations controlling the activities in the Bakersfield, Calif., office. Fleming has more than 31 years of experience in project management, engineering and construction. His project management background includes refinery and gas plant projects, co-generation and power projects and pipeline projects. Fleming has a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the University of Arizona. Meyyappan has more than 19 years of experience in process, petrochemical and refinery industries. His background includes projects in several refinery units, process study, technical service, energy auditing and utility systems. Meyyappan has a master's degree in chemical plant design from the Indian Institute of Technology and a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from the University of Madras, India. Doyen and Associates, a subsidiary of the Chicago-based Raymond Professional Group, is a full-service professional engineering and consulting firm.
Reid Middleton's surface transportation group recently promoted Patrick McGrady and David Mach. McGrady has been promoted from design engineer to project engineer. A transportation studies technical expert, McGrady has analyzed new traffic signal systems and performed studies for small parcel development plans to major highway widening projects. He is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the Institute of Transportation Engineers and the International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA). McGrady holds a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the University of Washington and is an IMSA-certified traffic signal technician. Mach has been promoted to design engineer. Mach received his bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the University of Washington and has been with Reid Middleton for two years as a staff engineer. He has experience with traffic and intersection analyses, designs of urban and rural roadway projects and construction administration and observation. He is a member of the American Public Works Association and the Institute of Transportation Engineers. Reid Middleton is headquartered in Everett and operates branch offices in Anchorage and Portland.
Baylis Architects of Bellevue has hired six new employees. Jeff Moffat has joined the firm as an associate architect. Moffat brings sixteen years of experience to the firm. He has a degree in architecture from the University of Texas at Austin. Projects with Baylis include the Barnes & Noble building at Northgate, the 116th Street Office Building in Bellevue and the Hyla Crossing Hotel preliminary study for a 100-room hotel in Issaquah. Leslie Stark has joined the firm as marketing/public relations manager. Stark is a graduate of Washington State University with over five years of experience in the architecture and engineering industry. Monique Laksana has joined the firm as a junior architect. Laksana has a degree in architecture from Temple University in Philadelphia. Projects with Baylis include the Bellevue Retail/Commercial Building at NE 8th Street, Kelley Clark and Barnes & Noble and single-family custom home projects. Scott Becker has joined the firm as a project manager. Becker graduated from the University of California with a bachelor's degree in business economics and environmental studies and received a master's degree in architecture from the University of Washington. He received a UW Valle Scholarship to the Oslo School of Architecture, Norway. Becker's role as project manager will emphasize design and management of residential work with a focus on urban multi-family, custom single-family and hospitality projects. Susan Falkowski has joined the firm with a degree in architecture from Washington State University. Baylis projects she is currently working on include the Burnstead Office Building, the Underwood Office Building and Newcastle Townhomes. Jason Morford has joined the firm as an intern. Originally from Austin, Texas, Morford graduated from Oklahoma State University last December with a bachelor's degree in architecture. Projects with Baylis include Barnes & Noble and single-family custom home projects.

Seattle Mortgage Co.'s Residential Construction Department has moved to a new location: 2825 Eastlake Ave. E., Suite 250, Seattle, WA 98102. The company moved to a larger location because of increasing business.
Charles Demming, a senior project manager with Kitchell's Northwest Region office, has been elected 1999-2000 president of the Oregon/S.W. Washington Chapter of the Council of Educational Facility Planners International. The council is a professional organization committed to the development of school facilities that enhance learning and provide a safe environment for education. Demming is a senior project manager for Kitchell. The Northwest office provides program and construction management services to public school districts, counties and cities in Washington and Oregon.
S. Jamie Awford has been hired as business development manager for Gilbane Building Co.'s Western Region office in Kirkland. Awford has over 15 years of experience in architectural, engineering and construction business development and operations. In developing Gilbane's Western Region, Awford will focus on the library, education and corrections markets.
Lease Crutcher Lewis' Portland office has made several staff additions. John Albers is a project manager, Robert "Doc" Dorroh is a superintendent and Angela Fraley is the marketing manager. Albers has worked in the industry for 20 years. Prior to joining LCL, he worked as a carpenter, foreman, superintendent and project manager for Taisei Construction and Morrison Construction. At LCL, Albers will focus on light-industrial and tenant improvement projects. Dorroh has over 30 years of construction experience in the Portland market. He previously worked at Howard S. Wright Construction. His new role is with LCL's Tenant Improvement department. Fraley has worked for the past six years in Portland's architecture, engineering and advertising industries. She is responsible for the firm's public relations and business development efforts.
Brasserie Margaux has recently added Stephen Desgaches as executive chef and Werner Christian Gessner as general manager to the new restaurant in the Warwick Hotel at Fourth Avenue and Lenora. Desgaches most recently served as executive chef at Torreyana Grill in La Jolla, Calif. Gessner has managed restaurants in Egypt, Monte Carlo and Los Angeles.
Turk's Head Productions has recently named Scot D. Briscoe as its new art director. Briscoe brings 10 years of experience as a graphic designer and art director to this Ballard-based ad agency.
The Professional Insurance Agents of Washington and Alaska has named Kathy A. Fraley as president for 1999-2000. Fraley has been with Bratrud Middleton for 21 years and in the insurance industry for 25 years. As president, Fraley chairs the board and oversees major programs and strategies of the 265-member association.
Gloria Chen has joined Daigel Design, a graphic design and web communications firm based in Bainbridge Island, as a member of its graphic design team. Chen is a recent graduate of the University of Oregon, where she earned her degree in graphic design.
