Stewart
OVP Venture Partners, an early-stage high tech and Internet venture capital firm, announced that Lucinda Stewart has joined the firm as a venture associate in the Kirkland office. Stewart is the first associate to join the five current general partners: Chad Waite, Gerry Langeler, Bill Miller, David Chen and George Clute. Stewart comes to OVP following a two-year working relationship at Frazier & Co., a health care focused venture capital firm based in Seattle.

National Frozen Foods

National Frozen Foods Corp., a Seattle-based international marketer of Pacific Northwest frozen vegetables, has named Gary Ash general manager of the Moses Lake plant. Ash began his career with the company at the Burlington plant in 1970. In 1991, he was promoted to plant manager.

Teledesic

Teledesic, a Bellevue-based satellite telecommunications network, has named Michael McGowen, previously a partner with Seattle-based law firm Perkins Coie, as general counsel. McGowen is responsible for internal and external legal affairs. He will replace Dennis James, who will focus on strategic, operational and business plan issues as president. Len Quadracci, has been promoted from director to vice president of system engineering. Quadracci is responsible for ensuring that all elements of the company's systems work together.

Bellevue Club Hotel

The Bellevue Club Hotel received the Exxon Mobil Travel Guide's Mobil Four-Star Award. The hotel has received the award for five years in a row. Ratings are based on inspections and evaluations of Mobil Travel Guide staff who register anonymously, as well as the comments from guests

BMW Constructors

John Shankel has joined BMW Constructors as corporate manager of quality assurance. Indianapolis-based BMW has a local branch office in Kent, in addition to branches in the Indiana cities of Munster and Mount Vernon. The company is a general industrial contractor.

Performance Contracting

Performance Contracting's Insulation and Specialty Services Division has hired Curt Watts as industrial manager, Jay Bridgewater as senior estimator and Paul Hamilton as superintendent. Watts has over 20 years of experience in the industrial and commercial insulation contracting industry. Bridgewater's experience includes more than 15 years in commercial insulation contracting. Hamilton has over 20 years of experience in the insulation industry. Performance is located in Seattle.

NEEC

The Northwest Energy Efficiency Council has awarded Building Operator Certification Level I status to Billy Babbitt of Bentall US, Ed Davis of Pemco Insurance, Edward Jackson of the city of Seattle, and Charles Eddington and Robert Manos of the federal General Services Administration. The certification is a professional development program that prepares facility operations and maintenance staff for certification in energy and resource efficient operations of buildings. The group completed a year of training and project work in building operations.

Concrete awards

A handful of Northwest contractors have won awards from the American Society of Concrete Contractors. Yakima's Poppoff Inc. won the Zero Lost Time Accident Achievement Award for having a zero incident rate, as well as the ASCC Certificate of Recognition for having an incident rate below the national average. Winners of the Safety Improvement Award were Meidling Concrete of Spokane and Marion Construction of Salem, Ore. The awards were presented earlier this year at the World of Concrete show in Las Vegas.

Lydig Construction

Spokane's Lydig Construction has won an Associated General Contractors of America award for safety. Lydig won the national first place award in the category of commercial building construction with 100,000-500,000 worker hours. Lydig operates offices in Bellevue and Yakima.

Quarry S/E

Quarry S/E has opened a showroom and 40,000-square-foot warehouse for stone tiles and slabs in the Georgetown area of Seattle. The new facility is located at 525 S. Front St., near the Seattle Design Center. Quarry S/E is an exclusive dealer in Burlington slate from England, Mariana soapstone from Brazil, and cottonwood and tuxedo limestones from Kansas.
