Clark County Superior Court Presiding Judge Robert Harris is the new president and King County Superior Court Judge Deborah Fleck is the new president-elect of the State Superior Court Judges' Association. Harris has served as president-elect for the past year. During his tenure, he will focus on the importance of adequate funding of the courts, implementing reforms suggested by the state Jury Commission, and increasing cooperation among Washington's trial court levels. He has been on the superior court bench since 1979. Fleck has served on the superior court bench since 1992, chairing numerous committees aimed at improving operations of the courts in relation to family and juvenile issues as well as race and justice issues. She was honored as Judge of the Year in 2000 by the Washington State Trial Lawyers' Association.
Jerry Bush has been named to the ownership group of University Mechanical Contractors. Bush has been with the firm for 12 years and has managed some of its major projects, including the Stafford Creek Corrections Center, Benaroya Concert Hall and Overlake Hospital medical office building. He is currently senior project manager for the Sea-Tac Airport South Terminal Expansion Project. Bush joins current owners Ed Kommers, Terry Baldwin, Doug Smith, Dean Petterson, Ted Granston and Frank Granston. Seattle-based University Mechanical is one of the largest design-build mechanical contractors in the state.
Bill Doran has been promoted from vice president of operations to president of Cochran Inc. In his new role, Doran will oversee the daily operations of the firm. He joined Cochran in 1986 as a project manager. Several other management changes have been made, including: Robert Cochran has been named CFO; Gordon Cochran has been named chairman of the board; LeeAnn Cochran has been promoted to first vice president; and Mike Cochran has been promoted to second vice president. Seattle-based Cochran specializes in design/build electrical, telecommunications and security contracting.
Tom Sweetser of Performance Contracting has recently become a certified insulation energy appraiser. To achieve certification, he had to meet specific industry requirements, attend a rigorous two-day training program sponsored by the National Insulation Association and pass a certification exam. As an insulation energy appraiser, he is qualified to use sophisticated software to evaluate the thermal performance of insulated and un-insulated piping and equipment. He also is trained to document actual Btu losses, translate those losses into dollars, and calculate greenhouse gas emissions levels with current in-place insulation systems.
The North American Steel Framing Alliance has promoted Betsey Meyer to general manager for its West Region, which includes the Pacific Northwest. A seminar on security glazing will be held May 17 in Tukwila by the Washington Glass Association. Cheri Kellman of Globe Amerada Architectural Glass will speak about the markets for the specialized glass. The event will kick off with a 5:30 p.m. social hour, followed by dinner and the presentation. It will be held at the Embassy Suites. Cost is $35 for association members and $45 for non-members.
