Olympic Associates Co. of Seattle has hired Scott Laetans as project manager, Doug Saito as architect and Court Olson as senior construction manager. Laetans is working for the firm's Building Envelope Quality Assurance Group. He brings 12 years of project management, financial management and design experience to Olympic. Saito, AIA, is providing Olympic with constructability and building envelope review services. Previously, he was an architect and construction manager at Children’s Hospital and Regional Medical Center in Seattle. Olson is providing design-build management services for both public and private clients. Prior to joining Olympic, Olson managed commercial building projects in the Puget Sound area.
Coos Bay, Ore.-based West Coast Contractors has added David Gerlach as general foreman. Gerlach is managing carpentry crews and subcontractors, handling daily reporting and progress schedules, and ordering materials. He has over 30 years of construction experience and holds a bachelor's degree from the University of California, Irvine. His current job is the North Bend High School project.
The Associated Builders and Contractors of Western Washington has announced its board members and officers for 2002-03. Leading the board this year are: Joan Baldwin of TEC Mechanical Service Co., chair; Dave Howell of CLP Resources, chair-elect; Linda Browning of Kirtley-Cole Assoc., vice-chair of professional development; Bob Mickel of Shinstine/Associates, vice-chair of membership; Les Sargeant of United Systems, vice-chair of advocacy; Jim Sweeney of Corporate Strategies & Development, secretary-treasurer; and Nick Cooper of Walsh Construction Co., immediate past chair. The directors include: Randy Bosley of Sovereign Enterprises, Scott Hanson of Lockett Construction, Jon Havelock of Med-Tox Northwest, John Hennessy of Nuprecon, De Leigh of DeBolte Plumbing & Heating, Dan McTaggart of Express Construction Co., Doug Ostergaard of North Star Electric, Karen Say of Saybr Contractors and Mike Sotelo of W.G. Clark Construction Co.
Seventeen students recently graduated as certified mechanical project managers under a nine-month training program given by the Mechanical Contractors Association of Western Washington Board of Education. The program was developed to train those working in the plumbing and piping industry. It teaches both technical and leadership skills.
Seattle's W.G. Clark Construction is now a member of King County's Construction Works program, which provides assistance and recognition to contractors who recycle, reduce waste and use recycled-content building materials. Clark was recognized for its work on the county's new Regional Communications and Emergency Coordination Center in Renton, the first LEED-certified building in the county.
The Portland Cement Association has merged with the American Portland Cement Alliance. The move was made to better unify government affairs programs with promotion and research efforts. Under the new organization, the alliance and its Washington, D.C., office will operate as the Government Affairs division of the PCA
Seattle Goodwill has promoted Alice Braverman to vice president of development, marketing and public relations; Betsy McFeely to director of public relations; and Sara Oshikawa-Clay to director of development. Braverman was formerly director of public relations, McFeely was assistant director of public relations and Oshikawa-Clay was development manager.
The Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle named Paul Stone to its executive staff as assistant executive vice-president for Jewish philanthropy. Stone's responsibilities will include planning, managing and implementing all financial resource development activities. Stone was most recently president and CEO of the Fairview Foundation. The Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle has raised over $135 million for social, community and educational programs and services since its founding in 1926.
Edward M. Pasatiempo has been named to the board of directors of WSA. Pasatiempo is currently Pacific Northwest regional president/operations solutions for EDS. WSA, the state’s oldest and largest technology trade association, was founded in 1984 and currently has 1,300 members.
Mark Weed is this year's recipient of the John M. Fluke Community Service Award presented by the South Snohomish County Chamber of Commerce. Weed is senior vice-president, chief property officer at Fisher Communications. The award will be presented at the chamber's Tribute to Leadership Dinner, its largest annual event, on Oct. 16.
