Short Cressman & Burgess

Connie Sue Manos Martin was elected a member in Short Cressman & Burgess, a Seattle-based law firm. Martin is a member of the firm's Environmental Land Use and Natural Resources Section and chairs the Tribal Practice Group. She also counsels construction professionals regarding compliance with environmental regulations and construction projects on Indian reservations.

The Phillips Law Firm

John W. Phillips, former trial lawyer at Heller Ehrman, has opened his own trial and appellate practice located at 315 Fifth Ave. S. in Seattle. Phillips' practice will continue to focus on product liability, consumer claims, environmental litigation, civil rights, intellectual property and business litigation.

Potlach Fund

The Potlach Fund, a not-for-profit organization directed by Northwest tribes, celebrated its first year of operations in November. The Potlach Fund, which raised $200,000 in nine months, is both a Native grant making foundation and a Native leadership development program. Its mission is to inspire the Native tradition of giving in Northwest Indian Country and to promote economic development, natural resources protection, education, cultural preservation, civic participation and the overall health of native people and their communities.

SMG

SMG, a Philadelphia-based private manager for public facilities, executed a five-year agreement to manage the Lynnwood Convention Center, now under construction. SMG will oversee the first two years of pre-opening activities and operate the facility for the initial three-year period, 2005-2007. SMG manages 48 convention centers including the Reliant Center in Houston and the Hawaii Convention Center in Honolulu.

Katherine Gardner has been named accounting manager for general contractor S.D. Deacon Corp. of Washington and its affiliate RemcoDeacon. Gardner previously was the accountant for Remco Services. She has 30 years of accounting experience and holds a bachelor's degree in sociology from North Carolina State University. RemcoDeacon specializes in restoration and remediation of water intrusion damage.

Pankow Award

The Civil Engineering Research Foundation is seeking entries for the 2004 Charles Pankow Award for Innovation. Commercial Investment Real Estate Institute

Members of the Washington Chapter of Commercial Investment Real Estate Institute have elected Robert DiPietrae of Hendricks & Partners president for 2004. Others elected are Connie Boyle of Colliers International, vice president; Morgan Llewellan of Llewellan Real Estate, treasurer; and Larry Hoff of Coldwell Banker All American, secretary. Marcus & Millichap

The 59-unit Post Alley Court Apartments, 1408 Western Ave. in Seattle, has sold for $4.458 million. Spencer Hurst and Robert Sheppard, both of Marcus & Millichap, represented the seller, Harbor Properties LLC, and the buyers, Reverse Now II LLC and Post Alley Court Apartments NW LLC.

The 30-unit Forest Creek Apartments, 1717 W. Casino Road in Everett, has sold for $2.05 million. Richard Walker of Marcus & Millichap represented the sellers, Mr. and Mrs. John P. Roberts, and the buyer, Rakesh Parashar.

The 10-unit University Terrace Apartments, 2635 Cascade Place in University Place, has sold for $420,000. Chad Duncan of Marcus & Millichap represented the sellers, Mr. & Mrs. Robert Schwartz, and the buyer, Will Chad, LLC.

The 27-unit McChord Tudor Haus Apartments, 5810 Chicago Ave. S.E. in Lakewood, has sold for $945,000. Larry Corkins of Marcus & Millichap represented the sellers, Mr. & Mrs. Walter Bale, and the buyer, Yuan Zhang.

CREW Seattle

U.S. Sen. Patty Murray will speak at CREW Seattle's noon lunch Jan. 8 at the Washington Athletic Club, 1325 Sixth Ave., Seattle. Murray, the first woman to represent Washington in the Senate, will address matters critical to real estate development in the state. Tickets are $29.50 for members with reservations and $45 for nonmembers and walk-ins.
