Stoel Rives

Jason L. Crowell and Steven J. Thiele joined the Seattle office of Stoel Rives. Crowell is an associate in the litigation practice group, and was an associate at Keesal, Young & Logan. Thiele focuses on hazardous waste, land use and environmental issues. Stoel Rives also named Ronald J. Lone to a four-year term as the firm's chair. Lone joined Stoel Rives in 1985. Lone succeeds Henry Hewitt, who was chair for a total of 14 years and will now lead the firm's business services practice group.

NanoString Technologies

NanoString Technologies named John Sowatsky vice president of product development. Sowatsky has more than 15 years of engineering and product development experience, including work as a vice president at Affymetrix.

Southern Poverty Law Center

Jeff Blancett, who was a director with the University of Washington's Academic Medical Center in Seattle, recently took a job as chief operating officer for the Southern Poverty Law Center in Montgomery, Ala. He will oversee finance, human resources, information technology and publishing.

DDB Seattle

The Seattle office of DDB has added several new staff members: Jason Gingold, strategic planner, Timothy Frommer, online marketing manager, Christopher Neff, program manager, Craig Potter, director of broadcast production, Kelly Showalter, production manager, Michael Swartz, Web developer, and Jeremy Welch, mailroom coordinator. Working on art direction are Ray Page and Troy Brock. Seamus Dolan is an electronic production artist. Penny Williams is account director. Others working on accounts are Adam Smith, Deanna Dukes, Sarah Russell, Traci Finatti, Dawn Roesler and Kevin Laramore. Copywriters are Robert Powers, Keith Anderson, and Matt Gilmore. Project managers are Ellen Byron and Dona Ozier. Christy Forrester is the human resources coordinator, and Kristen Hughes is an administrative assistant. DDB is a unit of DDB Worldwide and Omnicom Group.

Burke Museum

The Burke Musuem of Natural History and Culture at the University of Washington named Julie Stein director. She will replace acting director Roxana Augusztiny, who stepped in after George MacDonald retired last summer. Stein worked as a dean of research in the College of Arts and Sciences at UW, and curated archaeology at the Burke from 1990 to 1999.

Allen Brackett Shedd

Bruce C. Allen & Associates has changed its name to Allen Brackett Shedd. The company has offices in Bellevue and Fircrest. Addresses and telephone numbers remain the same.

Garvey Schubert Barer

Garvey Schubert Barer added Paul J. Kelly, Jr. , to its Portland office as of counsel. Kelly was global director of public affairs for Nike when he retired earlier this year. He spent 17 years with Nike as general counsel for the company's European, Middle Eastern and North African regions. He will now focus on international law, government relations and public policy.

Joe Ferguson has joined the Seattle real estate economics company Gardner Johnson as a market analyst. He will analyze commercial and residential markets. He previously worked for Grubb & Ellis in Denver.

Signature Destinations Club

Tom Poole of the Highliner Group has joined Kirkland-based Signature Destination Club's board of directors. Billed as the first regionally focused residence club, Signature members get 56 days a year in luxury homes. It's starting in the Northwest and plans to expand. Poole has 20 years of experience advising technology, construction, medical, Internet and financial-related companies and groups. He founded Highliner Group. His Internet career began 10 years ago with senior.com, which was acquired in 2000 by a joint venture of Compaq Computer and PacifiCare Health Systems.

Mastro Properties

Gary English, CFO of Seattle-based Mastro Properties, reports the company sold nearly $49 million worth of properties in August and acquired almost $25.5 million. Among the larger sales was Willows 124A and B, a Redmond office, for nearly $27.4 million. Mastro sold 363 residential lots in Richmond, Calif. ($3.2 million) and 700 acres in Palm Springs, Calif., for residential and commercial development ($2.8 million). Among the acquisitions was the Athena Apartments on Seattle's Queen Anne Hill for $21 million and an apartment site at 85th and Greenwood in Seattle for $1.8 million. The company's year-to-date transactions top $215 million. That compares to $114 million during the same period in 2004.

Hendricks & Partners

Landmark Development sold Foster Commons, a 72-unit apartment property at 5700 S. 129th St. in Seattle, to Larry Wolfe of Long Beach Calif., for $6 million. David Young of Hendricks & Partners negotiated the deal.

ScanlanKemperBard

A joint venture of Portland-based ScanlanKemperBard and The Praedium Group of New York bought the 440,600-square-foot Phoenix Corporate Center for $49 million from Transwestern Investment Services. The eight-building project on 33 acres is nearly 79 percent leased. The acquisition includes land for another building. The price equals $113 per square foot. Phoenix's average office sales price is $172, according to ScanlanKemperBard. The city has approved funding for a light rail line with a stop next to the property. The Palmer Team brokered the deal. Transwestern Commercial Services will manage and lease the property.

Windermere Real Estate

New sales associates at Windermere's Mercer Island office are Charles Bohanon, Cassandra Chamberlain, Dena Chavez, Sasha Khosraw, Jahneen Schenck, Becky Shaddle, Sholeh Vaziri and Jeffrey Yuen.

Seattle-based Windermere has opened an affiliate office in Henderson, Nev. Windermere Real Estate/Henderson-Anthem Hills is the company's third office in the Las Vegas area. Stephen and Di Redman and Dennis and Robyn Yates are the owners. It will concentrate on residential resales but also handle new construction and commercial real estate. It has 25 sales associates. The plan is to hire up to 40 agents by year's end.

CCIM
