Merrill Gardens

Paula Willems is vice president of human resources for Merrill Gardens. She will oversee team devlopment for 66 Merrill Gardens communities in more than a dozen states. Ron Haines is vice president of corporate real estate. Haines was an operations manager for a town center in Southern California. Merrill Gardens is based in Seattle, and owns and runs assisted-living communities.

Graham & Dunn

Clemens H. Barnes has rejoined the law firm Graham & Dunn as a shareholder and will head the company's labor and employment team. Barnes focuses on employment law compliance and litigation. He was with the company from 1972-1993. Graham & Dunn is based in Seattle and has more than 50 lawyers.

Codesic Consulting

Kirkland's Codesic Consulting has named Ray Makela as its first chief customer officer. Makela was vice president of business development, and has more than 19 years of experience in management and professional services. He was a senior manager at Accenture and Claremont Technology Group in Seattle. Codesic is an information technology consulting firm.

Hart Crowser

Chemical and environmental engineer Dave Heffner has rejoined Hart Crowser's Seattle office. Heffner has 20 years of experience on remediation projects, including Superfund sites at the Duwamish Waterway and Commencement Bay. He is working on the sites of two former drycleaners and what had been a facility to distribute petroleum products. Hart Crowser is an environmental and engineering consulting firm headquartered in Seattle.

Bremerton's Art Anderson Associates added James Parker and Mike Campbell to its team of naval architects and marine engineers. Campbell has 23 years of marine design experience and will create designs for NOAA and Washington State Ferries. Parker recently graduated from the Florida Institute of Technology with a master's in ocean engineering. He has helped develop naval warfare systems, and at Art Anderson will work on a contract with the U.S. Navy.

Baylis Architects added staff to work on mixed-use, commercial and single-family projects. Susan Busch has returned to Baylis after getting a master's in architecture and running her own firm for 10 years. She is project architect on home designs locally as well as in Shanghai. Meredith Everist is working on retail projects and a Renton financial center. Kevin Cleary is working on a residential mixed-use project next to Northgate Way Shopping Center. Donn DeVore has more than 18 years of experience in the architectural and construction industries. Lino Granata is coordinating a master plan for 130 units of cluster housing for retirees in Sequim. John D'Agnone is working on a master plan for Mill Creek East, a 225-unit residential community. Shilpa Karve is an intern doing commercial and residential projects in Bellevue, Renton and Redmond. Karve studied in Bombay, India, as well as at UCLA. Intern Sibusisiwe Dandato did commercial and single-family design in Cape Town, South Africa. Mathew Wendland has two years of commercial and residential experience and is working on residential mixed-use projects.

ECS Engineering, an electrical and control systems engineering firm with offices in Bothell and Wenatchee, added engineer in training Dallas Jacobsen, George Alavi and Mike Hjelseth. Jacobsen is an electrical designer with a degree in computer engineering, and is working on electrical design of commercial and water system facilities. Alavi is an electrical engineer with more than 30 years of experience in industrial power system design. Hjelseth is an electrical inspector for King County.

Sparling

Sparling made three recent graduates project designers: Christopher Andersen, Kyle Madson and Stephen Reinertson. Andersen is working on projects at Edmonds Performing Arts Center and Swedish Medical Center's Providence campus. Madson focuses on higher education and public facilities. Reinertson will work on industrial and military projects, including the Bremerton Naval Shipyard. Sparling is a Seattle-based electrical engineering and technology consulting firm.

SCS Engineers

Andrea Plischke joined the Bellevue office of SCS Engineers as a marketing and project assistant. Plischke will manage databases, edit reports and create marketing materials. She also worked in the medical industry and owned a personal training business. Long Beach, Calif.-based SCS specializes in solid waste engineering and environmental services.

Hammond Collier Wade Livingstone

Civil engineering firm Hammond Collier Wade Livingstone added Robert L. Hillebrand to manage its survey department. Hillebrand will oversee survey crews and fieldwork, as well as marketing and proposal development. He will be based mostly in Seattle, but will also help other branch offices in Wenatchee, Lakewood, Omak and Winthrop.

Perkins+Will

The international architecture, design and planning firm Perkins+Will's Seattle office added Stan Zintel as health care director for the Northwest. Zintel has more than 25 years of experience in health care, including work in Portland, Seattle and Anchorage. Amanda Sturgeon has joined as project architect and senior sustainable design advocate for the Seattle office. She worked on state legislation to promote green building practices. Perkins+Will is an architecture, interiors and planning firm with a staff of more than 1,000.
