Valley Internal Medicine, a 40-physician primary care and specialty group with locations in Kent, Renton, Covington and Newcastle, has changed its name to Southlake Clinic and launched its first Web site at http://www.southlakeclinic.com.
The Washington Small Business Development Center has started an award to honor service to the small business community. The Ron Battles Excellence Award will recognize Battles, a long-time small business counselor who recently died of bladder cancer at age 61. The award will be made to SBDC consultants and staff nominated by clients, peers or stakeholders. Battles provided business consulting through Edmonds Community College SBDC. The SBDC is a cooperative effort of Washington State University, Western Washington University, community colleges, economic development organizations and the US Small Business Administration.
Seattle-based Starbucks Coffee Co. promoted Matt Sikes, vice president finance, to senior vice president finance, U.S., and Mike Stafford, vice president, organization and partner development, to senior vice president, organization and partner development, partner resources.
Accium BioSciences, a Seattle-based commercial accelerator mass spectrometry operation, hired Glenn Kawasaki, Ph.D. as chief executive officer. He has 24 years of experience in start-up biotech companies, and a Ph.D. in genetics, an M.B.A. and a J.D. from the University of Washington. Ugo Zoppi, Ph.D. has also joined as director of AMS Laboratory. Accium offers bioanalytical services for early-stage drug development.

Bellevue demolition contractor Trepus Corp. hired Ryan Ross as an estimator. Ross has 10 years of demolition industry experience, with an emphasis on heavy demolition. Trepus specializes in select demolition projects, full structure demolition, concrete cutting and container hauling service.

Clark Nuber, a Bellevue-based CPA and consulting firm, promoted several people this year. Jennifer Deger, Mitch Hansen, Andrew Prather and Rick Starkenburg were named principals. Liana Smith and John Steinhoff were named managers and Ryan Krebs was named to the position of senior. The firm also added several new people: Lisa Duong, IT desktop support; Luke Fisher, audit winter intern; Liudmila Hermanovich, tax staff; Leslie Hurt, tax winter intern; Jayme Riddell, audit staff; and Paul Ung, tax winter intern.
The law firm of Williams, Kastner & Gibbs promoted to members Seattle associates Casey Jorgensen, Christopher Marks and Carin Marney, and Tacoma of counsel Robert Pentimonti. Seattle associate Lisa Wiese has been promoted to of counsel.
Don Turriaga, a 20-year IT consultant, has been hired to head a new consulting practice in the Seattle region for Network Design & Management. Network Design is an information technology systems integrator based in Spokane. The new office is in downtown Seattle.
Seattle Diving & Salvage has hired Tim Jewell as chief operating officer. Jewell will be responsible for all diving and vessel operations for the company. He has more than 15 years of experience as a commercial diver and dive supervisor. Seattle Diving was founded in 2003.
