Joaquin Hernandez, an associate in Schwabe, Williamson & Wyatt's Seattle office, has completed a fellowship with the Washington State Bar Association's Leadership Institute. Each year, the institute selects 10 to 12 attorneys to learn about legal leadership and develop a community-service project. Schwabe, Williamson & Wyatt has 160 attorneys in Oregon, Washington and Washington, D.C.
Real estate lawyer Robert W. Sargeant has joined the Seattle office of Williams, Kastner & Gibbs as a member. Williams, Kastner & Gibbs has 90 attorneys in Seattle, Portland and Tacoma.

The Young Professionals Group of the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties will meet Thursday, Nov. 30, from 4:45 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the W Hotel, 1112 Fourth Ave., in Seattle. Registration includes two drink tickets, appetizers and a contribution toward sponsoring a family in need this holiday season. To help raise money for these families, there will also be a raffle. The National Organization of Industrial and Office Properties' Nov. 15 breakfast meeting will feature Rob McKenna, state attorney general. It will be held at Meydenbauer Center in Bellevue. CB Richard Ellis is opening a new office in Tacoma headed by Nick Cassino. Cassino has returned to CBRE to serve as managing director. The office will open in mid-November with seven to eight brokers in the Financial Center in downtown Tacoma. Cassino expects to double the number of brokers in the office in the coming year and eventually grow to 20.
The advanced Commercial Real Estate Leases Conference will be held Dec. 14 and 15 at the Washington State Convention and Trade Center in Seattle. The Kirkland Chamber of Commerce and the city of Kirkland have appointed Duncan Milloy as their business retention consultant. He will act as a facilitator for Kirkland businesses that need assistance obtaining permits, complying with regulations and finding space.
The Association of Washington Business has elected Kirk Nelson, Qwest Communications' Washington president, as chair of the board. AWB has also elected Brad Carlson of Evergreen Memorial Gardens as vice chair and Jack McRae of Premera Blue Cross as secretary-treasurer.
Banner Bank has hired Sara Fahy as vice president/SBA manager at the Bellevue Commercial Center. She was with Wells Fargo and Bank of Commerce/US Bank. Banner Bank is a commercial bank headquartered in Walla Walla.
