Cascade Design Collaborative recently hired six designers. Margarett Harrison, a senior landscape architect, has 20 years of landscape architecture experience with the Berger Partnership and Mithun. David Saxen, a senior urban designer, has experience in planning, urban design and project management. He will work on urban design and streetscape projects. Meredith Hall, landscape designer, will use Northwest native plants to manage stormwater. Judy Johnson, landscape designer, recently graduated from Iowa State University and will assist in K-12 projects. John Kleinkopf, landscape designer, has experience in public involvement and planning in the Netherlands. Zack Thomas, landscape designer, has a background in hydrology and ecology. His science and environmental studies experience will be used in landscape architecture.

Luo
Otto Rosenau & Associates recently added Huayang Luo as an engineer to support the geotechnical engineering department. Luo received his Ph.D. in geological engineering at University of Alaska last year and has more than 10 years of experience in investigation and design of geotechnical projects. Brian Robertson and Thomas Maddock have been promoted to field supervisor from senior special inspector. Robertson and Maddock have 55 years of combined experience.

VIA Architecture recently announced the following appointments: Catherine Calvert Hart, director of practice and sector director of community architecture; JP Thornton, director of practice and sector director of mixed-use and major projects; Dale Rickard, design director of transit architecture; Peter Houseknecht, sector director of hospitality; Charlene Kovacs, sector director of community architecture; Matthew Roddis, design director of urban design and planning; Douglass Lundman, design director of infrastructure architecture; Mark Nielsen, lead in documentation and standards; and Matt Roewe, design director of mixed-use and major projects.

GeoEngineers

GeoEngineers promoted Dave Cook to principal and Matt Smith to associate. Cook has been with GeoEngineers for 15 years and works in the Seattle office. Cook has completed several brownfield projects, including Rainier Court, which won a National Phoenix Award last November. He is active in National Association of Industrial and Office Properties and was recently elected president of the Puget Sound chapter of Engineers Without Borders. Smith has worked with GeoEngineers as a geotechnical engineer for the past 11 years and currently works in the Redmond office. His work this year includes managing several large-scale projects including the Olive 8 high-rise, Olivian Tower and City Center Plaza high-rise.

Giffin Bolte Jurgens

Giffin Bolte Jurgens promoted Gerhard Bamler to associate. Bamler joined the firm in 2001 after moving here from New Zealand. He served as project manager on tenant improvements for The Oregon Clinic, a 100,000-square-foot medical office complex. Bamler was also on the production team for the Mary Bridge Children’s Health Center in Tacoma, and the Providence St. Peter Hospital remodel in Olympia. Bamler also worked on a 40-bed ICU/CCU at Tacoma General Hospital.

Herrera

Niklas Christensen, Joe Amann and Rich Scheibley have joined Herrera’s water resources group in Seattle. Christensen has five years of experience on projects including assessing the hydrologic implications of climate change, water quality investigations, and designing and installing groundwater monitoring networks. Amann has 10 years combined experience and education in hydraulic and hydrologic modeling, water quality sampling, and geomorphologic assessment. Sheibley has 10 years of experience studying biogeochemical cycling in aquatic ecosystems, focusing on streams in the Pacific Northwest. David Yu joined the water resources staff in the Portland office. He has conducted stormwater monitoring, data management and analytical data analysis. Other additions include Christopher Kistner, marketing assistant, Ann Harbor, support services and Vicki Ghio, business management group.

Davis Wright Tremaine

The law firm of Davis Wright Tremaine named David C. Baca firmwide managing partner. Baca succeeds Richard D. Ellingsen who has served as managing partner since March 2001. Ellingsen will return to his national health law practice. Baca is the first managing partner from the firm's Portland office.

AAA Washington

AAA Washington has elected its 2007 board of trustees, officers and new board members. Joanne Harrell of Microsoft will be chair of the board. John Blackman of Argosy Cruises is vice chair and Steve Matsko of Quantum Financial Planning Services is treasurer. Charles Liekweg was re-elected president and CEO. New board members are Jerry Chambers of Jerry Chambers Chevrolet Cadillac in Bellingham and William Lampson of Lampson International.

Wells Fargo

Hamza Qadri has been named community banking district manager for Wells Fargo's Instore District. Qadri leads more than 50 team members in seven banks located in grocery stores throughout Western Washington.

Spherion

Spherion Corp., a recruiting and staffing company, hired Chance Brimhall as Seattle area business development manager, based in Federal Way.
