PointSure

PointSure Insurance Services promoted Craig Pankow to president. Pankow was executive vice president in charge of national sales and operations. Prior to joining PointSure, he was the western regional marketing officer for Willis of North America.

El Gaucho

Seattle restaurant El Gaucho promoted Michael Kaminski to ringmaster. Ringmaster is a role similar to that of a maitre d'. Kaminski was an original staff member when El Gaucho opened 10 years ago and is one of six top sommeliers in the United States, as selected by Krug Champagne.

SinglePoint

Bellevue-based SinglePoint, a provider of mobile messaging services, announced new hires and executive appointments. Michael Skoff was promoted to CFO and Tom Cast was promoted to vice president of engineering and operations. Arthur Morton is director of operations and Scott Shepherd is director of sales. Morton has worked with Alcatel/Lucent and AT&T Wireless. Shepherd was with Motricity.

Wade Perrow Construction

Gig Harbor's Wade Perrow Construction hired Jeff Spaulding as project manager, where he is providing estimating support. Spaulding brings an engineering, physics and mathematics background from Washington State University along with more than 10 years of industry experience.

Master Builders Association of Pierce County

The Master Builders Association of Pierce County and the Remodelors Council recently held the 11th annual Remodeling Excellence Awards (REX). ABC of Western Washington

Twenty-four graduated from the Associated Builders and Contractors of Western Washington's School of Construction Management. The six-week course taught by industry professionals covers how to run a construction company. Utility Contractors Association of Washington

The Utility Contractors Association of Washington has established a dispute review panel for UCAW contractors and utility owners who have disputes centered around damages to utility owners' underground facilities. The goal of the panel is to decrease outstanding claim issues and to shorten the settlement time of disputes.

Seattle City Light

Seattle City Light hired Robert Balzar as conservation resources director and Richard Kent as electric engineering division director. Balzar has 30 years experience and was director of marketing and product development for a home builder in Las Vegas. Kent was with the Idaho National Lab in Idaho Falls, Idaho.

Society of Professional Journalists

The Washington Board of the Society of Professional Journalists awarded Alan Boyle, the science editor of msnbc.com, the 2007 Anderson Almquist Award for distinguished service to journalism. It is the highest honor given by the local chapter. Boyle has also worked as foreign editor of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer and editor of the GlasNews journalism review.

Federation of Independent Business

The National Federation of Independent Business/Washington named Curtis Fackler, a Spokane entrepreneur, small-business champion of the year. Fackler owned and operated Payroll Plus between 1992 and 2001, then started U.S. Tax Credit Services. The federation is a national small-business advocacy organization with offices in every state.
