Kent-based PowerTech Group hired Roger Shanafelt as vice president of sales and business development. Shanafelt has 20 years experience and worked with DocuSign. The PowerTech Group is an automated computer security solutions company.
The Downtown Seattle Association picked new officers for its board of trustees. John Hanley Jr., a shareholder with Heller Ehrman, is chair. Patrick Gordon, a principal at Zimmer Gunsul Frasca Architects, is vice chair. Jane Nelson, an attorney at Lane Powell, is secretary. Dean Arnold of Washington Mutual and Dr. James Hendricks, president of the Children's Hospital Research Institute, are new board members.
Mercer Island-based GMI, a global market intelligence solutions provider, hired Joseph Baldini as vice president of information technology. Baldini has 15 years experience and was vice president of engineering at Muze.
Seattle-based Rainier Investment Management, an employee-owned investment firm, hired Brian M. Bader as director of subadvisory sales and client service. Bader was with U.S. Trust, Financial Institutions Group.

HBB has promoted
Dean W. Koonts to senior associate and added him to the ownership team. Koonts has worked on transportation corridors, urban streetscapes, educational facilities, housing, waterfront design and civic planning. He has more than nine years of experience and is currently the lead landscape architect for the Mercer Corridor improvements project in Seattle and the Public Waterfront Access Plan with the Port of Anacortes. HBB also has two employees on local planning commissions.
Colie Hough-Beck, president, is on the Seattle Planning Commission, and
Jim Howard, principal, is on the Kenmore Planning Commission.
Amy Lindemuth won an Honor Award from the American Society of Landscape Architecture, Washington chapter, for her thesis work at the University of Washington’s Department of Landscape Architecture. Lindemuth will publish an article later this year in the Journal of Mediterranean Ecology.
Sclater Partners Architects has added four employees to the design team. Rob Estep, licensed project architect, is working on mixed-use office/residential/hotel and retail projects. David Syferd is working on a high-end retail/hotel project. Ben Kim is a team member on tenant improvements and a multi-family residential and hotel project, and Amanda Engel is working on retail projects.
Northwest Mechanical Engineering has hired Jessica Henry. Henry, previously with The Boeing Co., is currently providing mechanical systems design for Heyburn State Park Welcome Center, Stone Ridge Resort Club House and Shepherd of the Hills Church.
Art Anderson Associates has added
Robert Dullanty, Scott Newbury, Daniel Green and
Shan Zhao. Dullanty has over 20 years of experience in project management and structural engineering, and specializes in marina and port structures. He will be working on waterfront and marine projects. Scott Newbury is a marine engineer and specializes in marine performance evaluation, physical modeling of vessels and marine structures, and experimental data collection, analysis and reporting. He will work on floating facilities design and Navy research projects.
Daniel Green is a drafter who has significant experience with drafting and technical software. Green will be working as a contract employee in the offices of Washington State Ferries, where he will provide electrical drafting support on the firm’s ongoing project to support security upgrades to vessels and terminals. Zhao joins the company as a “knowledge worm” intern. Zhao will improve the company’s knowledge management systems and processes.
TVA Architects has promoted seven staff members to associates.
Daniel Branbury was previously an intern architect with TVA Architects. He is working on the new Laika Animation Campus in Tualatin, Ore.
Thomas A. Douville has served the firm in a variety of roles. He is currently project manager for the Commons Building on the Laika campus.
Susan Hargrave has been with the firm for 10 years and is project manager on the Stop Motion Building for the Laika campus. Hargrave has a focus on interiors and branding.
Stefee S. Knudsen originally joined TVA Architects to work on Chico’s World Headquarters in Florida, and the 12,500-seat University of Oregon Basketball Arena. Knudsen is co-chair for the Portland AIA Committee on the Environment. She has 15 years of architectural experience, working on projects within the United States and abroad, including design of the American Embassy in Algeria, and assistant designer and architect for the New American Consulate in Istanbul, Turkey.
Matt Riordan is a Novell-certified network engineer and is responsible for maintaining and upgrading TVA’s servers and network system.
Elisa M.V. Rocha has been at the firm for three years and is project manager on the Nike Rhein, an office building tenant improvement project in Beaverton, Ore. She co-chairs TVA’s Sustainability and Continuing Education committees.
Mark Williams has served with the company for the past three years. His past experience includes project designer and project captain on a variety of commissions in Chicago, including religious facilities, recreation centers, libraries, performing arts centers, and secondary and higher education projects.
