Public Relations Society of America

The Puget Sound Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America announced its 2009 officers. They are Linda Farmer of the city of Federal Way, president; Jennifer Hawton of Boeing, VP, administration; Beverly Holland of Boeing, VP, programs; J. Riddell Williams

Law firm Riddell Williams hired Charlie Fitzpatrick as a principal. Fitzpatrick is a member of the product liability, litigation and alternative dispute resolution practice groups. She previously worked at the National Eating Disorders Organization.

Golf Today Magazine

The Northwest edition of Golf Today Magazine, a monthly publication that caters the Northwest golfer, released its inaugural issue March 13 at the Seattle Golf Show. The new magazine is backed by 22 years of publishing experience through its sister publication, Golf Today Magazine: West Coast Edition.

Dodrill
Historical Research Associates, a cultural resource management, litigation support and historical research consulting firm, hired Beth Dodrill and Jenny Dellert in the Seattle office. Dodrill is a landscape architectural historian who consults on preservation planning projects, both as a private consultant and as a member of project teams. She received the Advocacy Hero award from Historic Seattle. Dellert is a research archaeologist whose experience with prehistoric archaeological sites includes the Tse-whit-zen site in Port Angeles. Her historic work includes the San Buenaventura Mission in Ventura, Calif., copper mines in Eastern California and Western Nevada, and compiling family histories in Whatcom County.

SCS Engineers hired four new technical professionals in its Portland office, expanding its services to include environmental compliance monitoring and reporting, hydrogeology, storm water, due diligence, and traditional environmental services. Louis Caruso is a licensed geologist and hydrogeologist with more than 20 years of experience in hydrogeologic and groundwater contamination studies. He has developed and managed hydrogeologic investigations and monitoring programs at landfill and industrial facilities in Oregon, Washington, California and Alaska. Caruso will serve as Portland office manager and project director. Registered professional geologist David Lamadrid and environmental scientists Jason Davendonis and Jeremy Jones also joined the office. Lamadrid has 14 years of environmental expertise involving groundwater characterization and monitoring, remedial investigations, due diligence, UST projects and solid waste hydrogeology. Davendonis has eight years of experience in environmental consulting and storm water related projects. He coordinates and manages project field monitoring activities for the hydrogeology group. Jones has three years of experience as an environmental scientist and is largely responsible for performing environmental field sampling at solid waste landfills, transfer stations, and industrial sites for clients in Oregon and Washington. Caruso, Lamadrid, Davendonis and Jones worked together at a national environmental consulting firm.

Landau Associates promoted several employees. GeoTest Services announced the retirement of Ken Hunter, who worked at the company for 13 years. Hunter is a WABO-registered construction special inspector of reinforced concrete, lateral wood and proprietary anchors. Throughout his career with GeoTest, Hunter took on the role of resident inspector on public and private projects throughout the Northwest. Hunter plans to start a weight-lifting program with a personal trainer and travel

Van Ness Feldman

Van Ness Feldman elected Matthew Love to partner, and hired Daniel Neilsen and Athena Kennedy as associates in the Seattle office. Neilsen worked at McNees Wallace & Nurick in Ohio. Kennedy was a legal intern at the U.S. Department of Justice's Environmental Enforcement Section.

Clearwire

Kirkland-based Clearwire Corp., a provider of wireless broadband services, hired William Morrow as CEO. Morrow has 30 years of operational management experience and has worked at AirTouch and Vodafone. Benjamin Wolff, Clearwire co-founder and current CEO, will remain co-chairman.

AGC of America

Several Northwest-based companies, or companies with Northwest offices, recently won Construction Safety Excellence awards from the Associated General Contractors of America. Poulsbo-based General Construction Co. won first place in the Heavy division and was recognized for its strong safety program and its overall safety performance during 2008. Other local first place winners included: PCL Construction, Municipal (700,001-1 million worker hours); Wildish Construction Co., Highway (300,001-700,000); PermaCold Engineering, Specialty (100,001-300,000); and Rosendin Electric, Specialty (over 1 million). Local second place winners included: BNBuilders, Building (300,001-700,000); and MWH Constructors, Construction Management (over 500,000). Kiewit Pacific Co. took third place in the Heavy (over 1 million) division.

Guy F. Atkinson Construction

Guy F. Atkinson Construction recently won two Roadway Work Zone Safety Awareness awards from the American Road & Transportation Builders Association Transportation Development Foundation for its work on the Interstate 405 widening design-build project in south Bellevue. The $124 million project, which included removal of the Wilburton Tunnel, received first place for its safety training programs and second place for public outreach. Paul Mayo is Atkinson’s project manager. Atkinson has a Northwest office in Renton.

MBA of Pierce County

Papalimu
Kawehi Papalimu of the Master Builders Association of Pierce County recently became one of a select group of building industry professionals nationwide to have earned the Certified Graduate Associate designation, identifying her as one of the building industry’s top professionals. The CGA program is administrated by the National Association of Home Builders University of Housing and is sponsored locally by the Master Builders Association of Pierce County and the Building Industry Association of Washington.

Sequoyah Electric

Redmond-based Sequoyah Electric has received a 2008 Gold Boeing Performance Excellence Award for electrical construction services. Boeing issues the award annually to suppliers who have achieved superior performance. Sequoyah maintained its gold performance rating for each month of the 12-month performance period.

Miles Sand & Gravel

Kevin Davis of Auburn’s Miles Sand & Gravel recently received the James M. Christie Safety & Health Professional Award for the company’s improved occupational safety record. The award was given last week by the National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association at the aggregates industry’s annual awards ceremony. Davis, who heads Miles’ safety programs, provides training, guidance and counseling to all employees. He also established and manages several company-wide safety committees.

Fieldturf Construction

Fieldturf Construction opened a regional office in Wilsonville, Ore., to be closer to its West Coast clients. Billy Walker is heading up the 10-employee office as regional director of operations. Fieldturf, a major sports surfacing manufacturer, says it plans to open several other offices around the country in the coming months
