The Seattle office of Davis Wright Tremaine hired Michele Herman, a technology, licensing and patent attorney, as partner. Herman, with 20 years experience serving clients in the technology industry, was a partner with Woodcock Washburn and was formerly associate general counsel and senior director of IP strategy at Microsoft Corp.
Unify2 in Redmond, a Unified Communications and Microsoft Office Communications Server consultant, hired Hari Natarajan to its executive leadership team as chief sales and marketing officer. Natarajan has 25 years experience in pioneering strategic business alliances in the enterprise market around the globe and recently worked with Satyam.
The Association of Language Companies has elected its new 2010 board of directors. Two board members are from the Northwest. Sandy Dupleich of Seattle's Dynamic Language Center is president. Kristin Quinlan of Portland's Certified Languages International is secretary.

Seattle City Light hired Maura Brueger, currently a senior advisor at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, to be the utility's director of government and legislative affairs. Brueger has more than 25 years of government relations experience. She previously worked with several King County departments and served as Ron Sims' director of federal relations when he served as King County executive.
Lovsted-Worthington promoted Steve Jackson to principal/partner in the firm. Jackson joined Lovsted Worthington in 2000 after working for the Aetna and Travelers Insurance companies in both claim and underwriting capacities. He has been a commercial producer and has concentrated on senior living, real estate, construction, hospitality and entertainment related accounts.
The City of Mercer Island hired Timothy Stewart as director of the Development Services Group. Stewart has 30 years experience in community planning and development and was recently director of planning and community development at the city of Bellingham. He succeeds Steve Lancaster, who accepted a job as city administrator for the City of Tukwila in February.

Sam Hyatt became manager of Professional Service Industries' Wal-Mart Washington Special Project. Hyatt is WABO/ICC and nuclear densometer certified. He previously worked in PSI's Salt Lake City office and is now based in its Mountlake Terrace office. PSI is an independent engineering and testing firm headquartered in Oakbrook Terrace, Ill.
Precision Door Service named industry veteran Rick Kennard to the new role of general manager of operations for its Commercial Division. Kennard is overseeing all commercial field operations in Washington, Idaho, Arizona, Utah and New Mexico. He is initially focusing on Western Washington. The division repairs and maintains commercial and industrial doors, gates and equipment.
Darrington-based Hampton Lumber Mill completed the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration's Voluntary Protection Program, an audit that recognizes a company's significant commitment to safety, and received Star status. The rating is the highest VPP level. The VPP program is administered in Washington by the state Department of Labor and Industries.
Portland's Andersen Construction is marking its 60th year in business while its Boise office turns 10 years old and its Seattle office finishes up its first year of operation.
Cascade Windows, a privately held vinyl window and patio door manufacturer, donated windows to the Home Builder's Association 2010 Showcase Home in Salem, Ore. The Showcase Home, part of this year's 2010 Tour of Homes, is built and sold to promote affordable homes and housing in the area. The tour of 30 homes runs until Sunday. Cascade has production plants in Spokane, Portland and Salt Lake City.
