Puget Sound Blood Center hired Jim Gore as chief operating officer for its Research Institute. Gore has been a consultant to the Research Institute for the past year and has extensive experience in the biomedical field. He was with Pacific Northwest Diabetes Research Institute as vice president.
Beliz Brother from Seattle and David Franklin from Indianola were selected from among 67 applicants to create artwork for the new Cheney Stadium in Tacoma. Brother received a $160,000 commission that was open to applications from western states, and Franklin received a commission for $50,000 that was limited to artists from South Puget Sound. The projects are funded through the Tacoma Municipal Art Program. They will be installed by opening day, April 14, 2011.
Sharon Prill has been named publisher of the Yakima Herald-Republic. Prill is senior vice president and general manager, journal interactive and audience development for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel in Milwaukee, Wis. Prill is a graduate of the University of Washington. She succeeds Michael Shepard, who was promoted to senior vice president, business operations for The Seattle Times Co.
The University of Washington has established a new Molecular Engineering and Science Institute focused on medical and energy applications. Pat Stayton, a UW professor of bioengineering, is the first director. Molecular engineering, sometimes called molecular manufacturing or molecular systems, is very small-scale construction made possible by a new class of nanotechnology. The institute will be housed in the Molecular Engineering and Science Building now under construction on the eattle campus.

Symetra Life Insurance said Patrick McCormick, senior vice president of national accounts, will leave the company. He will serve in a transitional role until Nov. 30. McCormick began his Symetra career in 1985 as a life insurance specialist and spent the past 11 years leading the sales and distribution team. Rich LaVoice, executive vice president of life and retirement sales, will assume his responsibilities until a replacement is named.
Seattle-based CPA firm Peterson Sullivan will combine with the Seattle office of Anderson ZurMuehlen & Co., an accounting and business advisory firm based in Montana. The firms will operate as Peterson Sullivan. Anderson ZurMuehlen partners Joe Wilcynski and Rob Keasal will become partners at Peterson Sullivan, and are two of the 10 former Anderson ZurMuehlen staff making the transition to Peterson Sullivan. Anderson ZurMuehlen will consolidate its operations at Peterson Sullivan's downtown Seattle office, with 100 employees and 13 partners.
The Federal Home Loan Bank of Seattle announced the resignation of President and CEO Richard Riccobono and the appointment of Steven Horton as acting president and CEO. Horton has served as senior vice president, chief operating officer of the Seattle Bank since May of 2009.
