Brenda Molner, a construction and telecommunications attorney and arbitrator, and Rob Roy Smith, a federal Indian law attorney, have been named shareholders in the Seattle office of Ater Wynne. Molner is a member of the Construction, Telecommunications and Litigation Groups. Smith is a member of the Indian Law, Tax and Litigation Groups.
Van Ness Feldman elected Mona Tandon as of counsel. Tandon is based in the Washington, D.C. office. She advises clients on pipeline, natural gas and electric utility regulation. Van Ness Feldman has offices in Seattle and Washington, D.C.
NanoString Technologies, a privately held life sciences company, hired J. Wayne Cowens as chief medical officer. Cowens worked at Genomic Health since 2004 in a series of senior medical positions, including vice president, clinical oncology.
The Pacific Northwest Defense Coalition, a defense-oriented networking and advocacy group, hired Gary Hanson as regional coordinator for Puget Sound. Hanson was a deputy sheriff with the King County Sheriff and is an active member of the Washington National Guard.

Gallatin Public Affairs hired Aaron Toso as a principal and promoted Bruce Gryniewski to office managing partner of the Seattle office. Toso was Washington State Department of Natural Resources' director of communications and outreach and was previously press secretary for Gov. Chris Gregoire. Gryniewski has 20 years of political and campaign experience and was previously executive director of Washington Conservation Voters.
Perkins Coie hired Stephen English in the Portland office as a partner in the national Commercial Litigation Practice Group. English will focus on complex business problems and high stakes litigation. He was with Bullivant Houser Bailey and has 30 years of trial experience.
Radia, an Everett-based private radiology/vascular practice, named Mary Kelly chief medical officer. Kelly directed imaging at the Swedish Ballard Women's Imaging Center since 2007. She is a clinical associate professor of radiology at the University of Washington.
The city of SeaTac hired Cindy Baker as the first director of the new Department of Community and Economic Development. The department will streamline permitting and help expedite new buildings and economic development projects. Baker has worked for Auburn and Woodinville as well as King and Kitsap counties.
Todd Henderson joined Grubb & Ellis Landauer Valuation Advisory Services as managing director of the Seattle office. He was with CB Richard Ellis Valuation Advisory Services, where he was a senior appraiser for five years. He did valuations in Washington and Oregon for a variety of property types and clients. He previously worked for EF & A Funding LLC, now part of Alliant Capital LLC, as well as Henderson Enterprises Inc., a Pacific Northwest construction company specializing in industrial properties.
Inman News will hold an event March 9 in Seattle called Agent Reboot, which provides real estate professionals with tips on technology. It will be at the Washington State Convention and Trade Center. Topics include using Facebook for business and using an iPad for listing presentations. Tickets are $49 if you register at agentreboot.com and $99 for onsite registration.
Michael J. Parks, a frequent commentator on the Pacific Northwest economy, will speak at the Commercial Real Estate Women's March 10 lunch at the Washington Athletic Club, 1325 Sixth Ave. Parks, who owned and edited Marple's Letter, will talk about how recession has affected the region and what factors are most important for recovery.
