Architecture and design firm Callison said it has promoted 15 people to principal, two to director and one to associate principal to strengthen core markets and geographic regions. The promotions are intended to broaden design, business development and project management capabilities, and also mirror Callison's growth plans in markets and offices, particularly in commercial interiors, New York and China. Many of the new principals will continue to support the firm's recent joint venture with HAYA Architects, an architecture and design firm in Beijing. Those promoted in the Seattle office to principal and their market specialties are: Darryl Custer, Peter Krech and Michael Lee, China commercial; John Jex and Leonard Ruff, North America commercial; and Carolyn Jones, Mike Riggs, Paul Scanlon, Dave Scurlock and Alex Shapleigh, global retail. Xiaoli Liu was promoted to director, China commercial in the Seattle office, and Ali Khatibi was promoted to associate principal, global retail in Seattle. Kathryn Mickel was promoted to principal, North America commercial, in the Scottsdale office. In New York, Steven Derwoed, David Kepron and Kenneth Lill were promoted to principal, global retail. Xiaolei Ouyang was promoted to principal, China commercial, in the Shanghai office and John Von Mohr was promoted to director, global retail, in Dallas. Callison specializes in retail, corporate, mixed-use, mission critical, financial, residential, urban planning, health care and hospitality. It also has offices in Dubai, London and Mexico City.



Redmond-based commercial steel contractor Apex Steel hired Brian McLean to head its Montana division, where it is working on the Billings Federal Courthouse, its first job in that state. McLean is a Montana native with more than 20 years in the ironworking trade.
GLY Construction moved from Lake Bellevue to a new location in Bellevue. The new address is: 200 112th Ave. N.E., Suite 300, Bellevue, WA 98004-5878. All other company information remains the same.
Pape Machinery in Kelso became the second work site in Washington to be recognized for safety through the new Safety Through Achieving Recognition Together program, or START. The program is administered by the state Department of Labor and Industries and is modeled on the federal Safety & Health Achievement Recognition Program, or SHARP. Both programs recognize companies with exemplary safety records.
Woodinville's Northwest Boring Co. won the 2011 Microtunnel Achievement Award from the Colorado School of Mines. The company was cited for its work on the first segment of the Portsmouth Force Main for the city of Portland, where it built more than 1,900 feet of 7-foot-diameter steel casing using microtunneling. Northwest Boring is owned by Donald W. Gonzales.
Northwest regional law firm Miller Nash elected partner Christine Masse to a three-year term on its five-person executive committee. Masse will help set policies and oversee management. Based in Seattle, Masse leads the Government and Regulatory Affairs Practice Group and the Tribal Practice Team. She joined Miller Nash in 1999.
Jennifer Clark is the new regional advocate for the Office of Advocacy's Region X, covering Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Alaska. Clark will be the Office of Advocacy's link to small business owners, state and local government agencies, state legislators, trade associations and small business organizations. She was a founding partner of Veracity Analytics and has 18 years of experience in marketing, human resources and change management.
Seattle Public Schools hired Bill Martin as executive director, facilities. Martin has been acting executive director for facilities since July. He joined Seattle Public Schools as senior manager of capital projects in 2009. He has 19 years of experience managing large capital projects.
Peer Consulting hired Linus Diedling as vice president, executive advisory services. Diedling will lead the firm's Executive Advisory Services Practice, which provides services such as operations and IT assessments. He was president of Healthcare Innovation Partners. Peer Consulting provides health care organizations with management consulting, systems implementation and integration.
