Devery

BergerABAM promoted Dennis Dallara to chief financial officer and treasurer, and Helen Devery to vice president. Dallara, previously controller and treasurer, has been with the firm for more than 10 years. Devery will continue to oversee the Vancouver office, which specializes in land use, environmental planning and public involvement. She has been with the company for 18 years. BergerABAM provides program management, civil and structural engineering, land use planning, natural resources, public involvement, construction management and support, and dive services.

Inventrix Engineering

Strobridge

Inventrix Engineering promoted Patrick Strobridge to associate principal. He was the firm's first employee and has more than 10 years of design experience, including schools, laboratories, hospitals, security/detention, civic, telecommunications, and office space. He will be plumbing design lead and project management lead for detention/corrections projects. Inventrix is a mechanical engineering firm.

Ben C. Gerwick

Ben C. Gerwick, an Oakland, Calif.-based civil and structural consulting firm, hired Paul Guenther to manage its Seattle office. He will provide business development, project management and technical delivery/oversight in the Northwest and Alaska. He was senior project manager/engineer with CH2M Hill in Bellevue. During his 23-year career, he has been a structural design engineer and project manager, focusing on bridges and port facilities. Gerwick designs major marine structures and bridges.

Perteet

Perteet hired Dan Mathias as utility manager and Dave Alm as senior traffic engineer for its transportation design group, and Rick McMahan as construction manager and Arlene Prieto as assistant construction manager. Mathias is based in Everett, and the others in Seattle. Mathias has 30 years of experience in utility management and was a regional engineer at Washington State Department of Health. Alm has 35 years of experience in traffic engineering, including in traffic operations and safety, and intelligent transportation systems. Perteet provides civil and transportation engineering services.

Columbia Bank

Columbia Bank hired Glenda Michael as senior vice president and health care banking specialist for the Portland and Vancouver metro areas. Michael was senior vice president at First Independent Bank in Vancouver. She has 32 years of experience in the banking industry.

Staples

Staples, the office products company, has opened its first store in Lake Stevens and made a $1,500 donation to the Boys & Girls Club of Snohomish County. The new store is at 621 State Route 9 N.E. in the Frontier Village Shopping Center.

Hornall Anderson

Brand design firm Hornall Anderson, a part of Omnicom Group, hired Marc Woollard and Mark Buchalter as design directors to lead efforts in environmental and innovation design. Woollard spent seven years as a design lead for Ideo's San Francisco office. Buchalter was a senior associate with NBBJ.

Estate Planning Council

The Estate Planning Council of Seattle has new officers for 2011-2012: Mitchell V. Maurer is president, Rick Conrad is immediate past president, Patricia Char is president-elect, Joan Albee is treasurer and Michael Vranizan is secretary. The executive committee is Susan Queary, Kirstin Humann Thompson, Carl Middleton and Carla Wigen. Wigen will chair the council's Oct. 31-Nov. 1 Estate Planning Seminar.
