Women Business Owners named Janelle Bruland of Management Services Northwest of Ferndale as the 2011 Nellie Cashman Woman Business Owner of the Year. The award recognizes women who enhance the status of women entrepreneurs. When Bruland purchased Management Services Northwest in 1995 it was a small janitorial company with 10 employees. Now, it has 240 employees in Washington, Oregon and Idaho.
Benaroya Research Institute at Virginia Mason hired Bolong Cao as director of business development. Cao was senior technology manager, licensing officer and technology manager for six years at the University of Washington Center for Commercialization. This is a new position at BRI that was created to develop a strategy for intellectual property management and technology commercialization.
Seattle Bank hired Robert Ittes as executive vice president, chief credit officer, and Alan Crain as executive vice president, chief financial officer. Ittes has been in the banking industry for 34 years, most recently as president of Issaquah Community Bank of the Northwest. Crain has 20 years of financial services experience including work with Knight, Vale & Gregory and Safeco Insurance.

Banner Bank promoted two employees in the Seattle-Bellevue area. Jodi Danielson and Marcelo Pomato have been promoted from vice president to senior vice president. Danielson has been with Banner Bank for a year and has 30 years of experience in the industry. Pomato started at Banner Bank in April.
ODS Health Plan of Portland opened a Spokane-based sales office led by Matt Schnug. Schnug joins Robin Hilleary, ODS Health regional sales director, on the Washington team. Schnug joined ODS in 2006. He was recently manager of the ODS Health Alaska office in Anchorage.
The Lake Washington Institute of Technology Board has chosen Dr. David Woodall as the finalist candidate for the post of president. The next step is gathering input from staff, students and the community. Woodall has served as the college's interim president since January when Dr. Sharon McGavick retired.
Capco Plaza in West Seattle has closed a $38 million long-term fixed rate loan. David Stinebaugh of CBRE's Capital Markets Debt & Equity Finance arranged financing on behalf of the owners, Capelouto Development Co. and Allstate Life Insurance Co. The 8-story complex has 157 apartments and 62,800 square feet of retail anchored by QFC. It opened in 2010 and is at 4100 S.W. Alaska St. Capco is in a city's program that exempts it from some property taxes in exchange for keeping 20 percent of the units at affordable rates. Hewitt designed the project that Chinn Construction built.
A new report outlines ways to finance $150 billion a year in energy efficiency projects that could yield double-digit financial returns. Capital-E, with support from real estate groups including the Appraisal Institute and 10 large banks, wrote the report called “Energy Efficiency Financing: Models and Strategies.” It says that within 10 years investment at this level would save U.S. businesses and households $200 billion annually and create more than 1 million new full-time jobs.
