Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals

Christen

Morgan B. Christen, the first woman from Alaska to sit as a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, was formally invested into her office in Anchorage. Christen served on Alaska Superior Court from 2009 until her federal appointment. The Ninth Circuit hears appeals of cases decided by executive branch agencies and federal trial courts in nine states and two Pacific Islands.

Seattle Women's Commission

Seattle Women's Commission is seeking nominations for the Jeannette Williams Award, which honors an individual or organization for advancing the cause of women in Seattle. Williams served on the Seattle City Council for 20 years and established the first shelter for battered and abused women. Nominations are due July 2.

Affiliated Associations of America

Kirkland-based Affiliated Associations of America hired Anthony Matlock as marketing coordinator. Matlock has worked in communications for six years. The group provides a cooperative platform without competition for membership between associations, chambers of commerce and professional organizations.

EHS Design hired Kevin Conway as a senior project manager and John Pusey as a project architect. Conway has 34 years of interior architecture experience on corporate and public projects in the U.S. and China. He also was an instructor of interior design at the Art Institutes International for 13 years. Pusey has 16 years of experience on commercial, residential, higher education, civic and historic projects. Seattle-based EHS provides architecture, interior design, and space and facilities planning.

SvR Design Co. hired Amanda Bailey as a landscape designer and graphics specialist and Regina Derda as a civil designer. Bailey has a background in art and sustainable design-build projects, green stormwater infrastructure and urban agriculture in volunteer efforts. At SvR, she has worked on Bell Street Park. Derda focuses on stormwater management and low impact development. At SvR, she has worked on the Elliot Bay Seawall. The firm provides civil engineering, landscape architecture, planning and environmental restoration.

Aecom hired Jill Johnston as an environmental chemist and Bill Webb as a geologist in Seattle. Johnston is a project manager with 17 years of experience. She was quality assurance manager for Navy Clean and IDIQ contracts, and will work on Navy Clean contracts at Aecom. Webb has 20 years of experience in hazardous and solid waste, civil and design/build projects. He is doing business development, focusing on new markets. Aecom provides support services to transportation, facilities, environmental, energy, water and government markets.

HWA GeoSciences hired Jeffrey S. Thompson as a senior environmental geologist, Stephen Barrie as manager, construction inspection services and Tori Hesedahl as a geotechnical engineer. It promoted Bryan Hawkins to senior geotechnical engineer, and elected George Minassian, Ph.D., to the board of directors. Thompson has 20 years of experience in environmental investigation and remediation, technical strategy and implementation, and environmental liability management. Barrie has 15 years of construction and inspection experience. Hesedahl holds a master's in civil engineering from the University of Washington. HWA provides geotechnical and pavement engineering, construction inspection and materials testing, hydrogeology, and geoenvironmental consulting.

The Blueline Group hired Michael Morris as an engineering designer. He has 23 years of experience on subdivisions and commercial developments. Blueline provides civil engineering and land development consulting.

Landau Associates hired Kent Wiken as a senior associate engineer and Matt Moroney as an environmental scientist intern in Edmonds. It also hired Josh Elliott as a senior staff geotechnical engineer and Brittany Hartman as a planning and natural resources intern in Tacoma. Wiken has 27 years of experience in geotechnical investigations, environmental remediation, landfill design, stormwater management, wetland and habitat restoration, and mining site projects. Moroney holds an environmental science degree from Western Washington University. Elliott has five years of experience in geotechnical field investigations, design engineering, analyzing rockfall hazards, and conducting stability analyses. Hartman has a bachelor's in biology, and will assist natural resources staff. Landau is a geotechnical and environmental engineering and natural resources consulting firm.
