Washington State Convention Center

Sullivan

Gov. Christine Gregoire appointed Christopher Sullivan to a four-year term on the board of directors of the Washington State Convention Center. Sullivan has more than 34 years of hospitality industry experience and was general manager at the Seattle Marriott Waterfront.

Knobbe Martens Olson & Bear

California-based Knobbe Martens Olson & Bear hired Eric Wengreen as associate in its Seattle office. Wengreen is a medical device patent attorney with experience as an engineer, inventor, entrepreneur and business executive. Wengreen received a J.D. and a master's degree in engineering from Stanford University and worked for Medtronic. More than 20 patent applications were filed to protect his inventions. Knobbe Martens is an intellectual property law firm.

Washington State Court of Appeals

Governor Christine Gregoire appointed James Verellen to the Washington state Court of Appeals, Division I. For 20 years Verellen served as a Division I, Court of Appeals commissioner where he decided motions for discretionary review, emergency motions and other matters. Verellen will replace retiring Judge Anne Ellington.

DBM Contractors

Federal Way-based DBM Contractors received two safety awards from ADSC: The International Association of Foundation Drilling. DBM was one of four firms nationally to receive the award for contractors who perform single projects in excess of $750,000, and one of two contractors to receive the Rick Marshall Commitment to Excellence in Safety Award. The awards recognize outstanding field and shop safety efforts. The company's EMR rating has dropped 30 percent since 2009 and is now at .679. It has not had a time loss accident in more than 450,000 hours worked.

Seattle-based law firm Riddell Williams hired Travis Daily and Rachel Schaefer as associates. Daily joins the bankruptcy and creditors' rights and litigation practice groups. Schaefer joins the litigation practice group. Riddell Williams is a 106-year-old full-service law firm.

Seattle Public Library

Chase

Stephanie Chase will join Seattle Public Library as director of library programs and services. She has worked at Multnomah County Library in Portland since 2010, most recently as administrator of systemwide and virtual information services.

Seattle Arts & Cultural Affairs

Mayor Mike McGinn named Randy Engstrom as interim director of Seattle's Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs. Engstrom is the founder and president of Reflex Strategies, a cultural and community-based consulting business, and was the founding director of Youngstown Cultural Arts Center.

Lane Powell

Seattle-based law firm Lane Powell hired Tamara Fountain as an attorney in the litigation practice group. Fountain focuses on workplace discrimination, harassment and wrongful termination, and previously worked for Microsoft as an attorney-employee relations investigator. Lane Powell has more than 200 attorneys with offices in Seattle, Portland, Anchorage, Olympia, Tacoma and London.

52 Limited

Portland-based 52 Limited hired Nate Webb as account manager and Kate Donnell as office manager in Portland. Webb was a recruiter for Aerotek staffing company and Donnell has worked in a variety of industries. 52 Limited is a staffing firm for the creative industry.

Puget Sound Energy

Bellevue-based Puget Sound Energy promoted David Mills to vice president of energy supply operations. Mills joined PSE in 2002 and is on the board of directors for the Pacific Northwest Utilities Conference Committee. PSE provides electrical power and natural gas in the Puget Sound region.

Real Estate Investment Services

Mancilla

Real Estate Investment Services hired Maria Mancilla as a property manager in the Tacoma office. She will manage single-family homes and multiplexes in north Tacoma, University Place and Gig Harbor. She was admissions and marketing director for a senior health care facility in Des Moines. Heather Sanders was hired to do research and development in Tacoma. She was a property manager at Madison Development in Kirkland and Raskin Partners in Bellevue. Started by the Anderson/Merriman family in 1983, REIS specializes in commercial real estate services and has offices in Tacoma, DuPont and Seattle.

Wallace Properties has hired Kathleen Taylor as an associate in Bellevue. She has more than 15 years of real estate experience in sales, mortgages, finance and commercial brokerage.

Emerging Trends 2013

ULI Northwest will present Emerging Trends 2013, a real estate forecast event, on Nov. 7 at the Sheraton Seattle Hotel from 7:30 to 9 a.m. It will include a presentation on Emerging Trends in Real Estate 2013, a report from PwC and ULI, and the outlook for the Seattle area with a panel of investors and experts. Housing Washington 2012

On Oct. 16 and 17 affordable housing professionals will gather at the Greater Tacoma Convention and Trade Center for Housing Washington 2012. Topics include demographics, the governor's race, funding and creative design. U.S. Dept. of Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan will speak, along with U.S. Senator Patty Murray, and author and Age Wave co-founder Maddy Dychtwald, who will look at social forces that have shaped each generation and the impacts on housing. Conference on permitting
