Stephen Sulkin will retire as professor and director of Western Washington University's Shannon Point Marine Center in the summer of 2013. Sulkin has served in a variety of positions including U.S. editor of the journal Estuarine Coast and Shelf Sciences, and president of the Western Association of Marine Laboratories. Sulkin has been director at the center since 1985.
Seattle-based REI promoted Brian Unmacht to chief operating officer. Unmacht joined REI in 1986 as store supervisor, and was named executive vice president of sales, service store development and logistics in 2008.
Seattle-based Big Fish Games hired Chris Williams as vice president and general manager of Free-to-Play. Williams served as vice president of products and strategy for PlayFirst. Big Fish Games is a provider of internet media delivery software and game services.

Bellevue-based Express Construction Co. hired Ken Johnston as a project engineer. Johnston holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from Eastern Washington University.
Skanska USA promoted eight in its Seattle office. Dan Beason, Mark Mershon and Bob Paddock were promoted from superintendents to senior superintendents. Dale Smith, Jeremy Uttech, Merritt Huntley, Torin Smith and Ed Jezek were promoted from general foremen to superintendents.
The Puget Sound Chapter of the National Association of Women in Construction last month installed its 2012-13 officers and board members at its membership meeting in Bellevue. Officers are Maureen Byrnes, president; Sue Z. Hart, vice president; Judy Jewell, treasurer; and Gwyn Hart, secretary. New board members are Gayle Hoffman, Lily Iftner and Brenda Molner.

Seattle-based HomeStreet Bank hired Paul Renstrom as senior vice president and enterprise risk management director. Renstrom previously was vice president and director of retail risk management for HSBC North America. HomeStreet Bank is state-chartered, FDIC-insured savings bank with offices in Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Hawaii.
The Washington School Directors' Association announced new officers for 2013: Debra Long as president, Chris Nieuwenhuis as vice president and Mari Taylor as president-elect. The rest of the board includes 12 representatives from director areas in the state. The association provides professional development, advocacy and policy services to school boards.
Seattle-based Global Seas hired William Franks as director of marketing and business development. Global Seas represents, manages, charters and operates vessels from the West coast to Alaska and Japan.
