Seattle-based commercial contractor Schuchart hired Phil Killham as a project manager in the Tenant Improvement Division and Kristin Hatfield to help manage the Industrial Division. Killham has more than 15 years of industry experience and has worked on a wide variety of ground-up and tenant improvement projects. Hatfield has more than 27 years of local industry experience, including roles as project manager, estimator and vice president.
Rick Slunaker retired after 18 years at the Associated General Contractors of Washington, including several years as government affairs director. AGC continues to be represented in Olympia by Van Collins, a longtime employee who has become chief lobbyist and general counsel, and Jerry VanderWood, who adds lobbying duties to his role as communications director.

The Seattle Transportation Infrastructure Group of PCL Civil Constructors hired Michael Shaw as district environmental manager. Shaw holds a master's degree in marine and estuarine science, and has more than 20 years of environmental permitting, remediation and mitigation experience. In his new role, he is developing an environmental compliance program.

Jeff Carpenter was named vice president of operations for Omega Morgan in Portland. Carpenter previously was vice president of global operations for Brooks Automation of Chelmsford, Mass., and Portland. He has a bachelor's degree in management from the University of Massachusetts and served on a submarine in the Navy. Omega Morgan is a specialized moving company with offices in Portland, Seattle and Phoenix.
Kenworth Truck Co.'s assembly plant in Renton was recognized as “One of the Best Workplaces for Commuters” by the National Center for Transit Research. The award recognizes employers that provide commuter benefits to help conserve energy and reduce traffic and related air pollution. This is the fifth consecutive year the plant has received the award.

Seattle Arts & Lectures named Ruth E. Dickey as the new executive director, starting in mid-July. Dickey was founding executive director of Cincinnati's Clifton Cultural Arts Center. Prior to that, Dickey was executive director of New Futures in Burien and won the DC Mayor's Arts Award for Outstanding Emerging Artist and the Washington Post Award for Excellence in nonprofit management in 2001.
Bellevue-based Symetra Financial Corporation named Michael McLean as chairman of the board and Thomas Doran as president at Medical Risk Managers (MRM). Symetra Financial Corporation acquired Medical Risk Managers in May 2007. MRM is a managing general underwriting and consulting firm that specializes in medical stop-loss insurance.

Arcaro Boxing Gym signed a lease with Capitol Hill Housing for a street-level space in The Jefferson apartments at 12th Avenue and East Jefferson Street. The gym will offer coaching for non-competitive, amateur and professional boxers. Owner Tricia Arcaro Turton has been coaching boxers since 2004.
Renton-based Kenworth Truck Co. was named One of the Best Workplaces for Commuters by the National Center for Transit Research. The award recognizes employers for providing outstanding commuter benefits. This is the fifth consecutive year Kenworth has received the award.
Jorge Carrasco, general manager and CEO of Seattle City Light, received the American Public Power Association's Alan H. Richardson Statesmanship Award. He is active in APPA, and recently served on the CEO Task Force on Generation Policy and Climate Change.

Cushman & Wakefield | Commerce added Scott H. Thompson as an associate broker for its industrial team. He will focus on sales and leasing in Seattle and Tacoma, specifically in the Kent Valley. Thompson was a director at Newmark Grubb Knight Frank in Atlanta, where his team focused on tenant leasing and sales for large companies. Cushman & Wakefield | Commerce is a member of the Cushman & Wakefield Alliance, which is based in Salt Lake City and has offices in Washington, Utah, Nevada and Idaho.

Zack Goodwin joined NBS Financial Services in Seattle as a financial analyst, working on the loan origination team to secure capital from life insurance companies, conduits, REITs and pension funds. He was an associate financial representative with Northwestern Mutual Wealth Management and has experience in commercial real estate brokerage at Coldwell Banker Tomlinson in Spokane. He also did research for a local investment group that specialized in U.S. multifamily acquisitions. Goodwin is a licensed real estate broker in Washington.
Merrill Gardens, an affiliate of R.D. Merrill Co. that owns and operates retirement communities, has named Tana Gall the new president and Jason Childers senior vice president. They will lead the company's 2,800 employees. Gall and Childers were previously president and senior vice president at Leisure Care Retirement Communities. Merrill Gardens said it is has 56 communities in Washington, Alabama, Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Montana, Nevada and Texas, with space for more than 8,000 residents.
Seattle-based REI will open stores in Flagstaff, Ariz., and Columbus, Ohio, next spring. The stores each will be 23,000 square feet and have 50 employees. The Flagstaff store will be REI's fourth in Arizona. The Columbus store is the second in Ohio, joining a Cincinnati location that opened last October. REI has 129 stores in 32 states, and more than 5 million active members.
Associa's EMB Management, which provides services to homeowner associations and developers, hired Sarah Anderson as director of marketing and operations in Seattle. Anderson worked at another homeowner association management company as a senior portfolio manager, where she supervised high-rise and mixed-use condo associations. Dallas-based Associa says it is North America's largest homeowner association management firm, with 8,000 employees and more than 150 offices in the U.S., Canada and Mexico.
