Electrical Construction Co.

Hella

Portland-based Electrical Construction Co. bought the Seattle-area operations of WPCS, a provider of wireless communication, specialty construction and electrical power services. EC Company also promoted Roy Hella to vice president of construction and Seattle operations manager. Hella has more than 30 years of industry experience and has managed EC Company's Seattle operations since 2011. A press release from Exton, Pennsylvania-based WPCS says the deal was valued at about $2.1 million.

Merit Construction Northwest

Roberts

Bill Roberts joined Merit Construction Northwest in Lakewood as senior project manager. Roberts has more than 40 years of experience in engineering and managing projects such as hotels, shopping centers, higher education buildings and military facilities.

PSF Mechanical

Diaz

PSF Mechanical expanded its commercial HVAC service and maintenance operations to Tacoma with a new office at 5009 Pacific Highway E. Jose Diaz was hired as business development leader for the new office. Diaz is on the board for the state Society of Healthcare Engineers and the group named him 2013 Associate Member of the Year. He is also a member of the Building Owners and Managers Association's South Puget Sound chapter.

Howard S. Wright

Thorson

The Portland Daily Journal of Commerce named Sarah Thorson of Howard S. Wright as one of its 2014 Women of Vision. Thorson manages the Oregon Division Special Projects Group of Howard S. Wright, which is a Balfour Beatty company. The award honors women who contribute to the construction industry through leadership, mentoring, community involvement and diversity promotion.

Walsh Construction Co.

Mathews

The Seattle office of Walsh Construction Co. promoted Dan Mathews to document control coordinator and Peter Zastko to superintendent. Mathews began his career at Walsh in 2003 as a laborer, and transitioned to a driver and laborer at the Washington region equipment yard. Zastko joined Walsh in 2001 as a laborer, and later became labor foreman and assistant superintendent.

Issaquah-based Lakeside Industries hired Cal Beyer as risk management director in the Safety Department. Beyer has more than 25 years of experience in safety and risk management, including strategic risk improvement and best management practices for the construction industry.

Attorney Melia A. Preedy joined Oles Morrison Rinker & Baker's Seattle office as a member of the Government Contracts and Construction Law practice groups. Preedy represents clients on a broad range of government contracts and related litigation matters.

Pacific Bonsai Museum (formerly the Weyerhaeuser Pacific Rim Bonsai Collection) added two new staff members: Kathy McCabe is executive director and Aarin Packard is curator, succeeding Dave De Groot, who is retiring after serving as curator since the museum opened in 1989. McCabe was deputy director of Cascade Bicycle Club. Packard was assistant curator of The National Bonsai and Penjing at The U.S. National Arboretum.

Stokes Lawrence said Alan Schulkin has joined its Financial Services practice from Schulkin Rein, where he practiced for 15 years. He has represented financial institutions in all aspects of commercial lending, including tax-exempt bond financing, and will work with clients in Washington and Oregon.

Lee & Hayes

Lee & Hayes added attorney Joel Baldwin to the Seattle office. His practice focuses on drafting and evaluating patent applications for product development in areas such as bulk chemical processing, materials engineering, composites materials and aerospace technologies. The firm is based in Spokane and has seven U.S. offices.
