KCTS 9 named Michell Pihl vice president of finance and administration, in charge of finance, personnel and legal functions. Pihl was chief financial and administration officer for Girl Scouts of Western Washington. She has worked for other nonprofits and Bank of America.

Basho Technologies

Basho Technologies, which makes software to run Web, mobile and social applications as well as cloud platforms, will open a new headquarters in Bellevue early in 2015. Basho has offices near Washington, D.C., and in London and Tokyo. The Seattle area was chosen for its tech industry and talent pool. Amy Kelleran Pelly has joined Basho as chief financial officer and Heather McKelvey is vice president of engineering. Pelly was the CFO at Doxo. McKelvey was CTO at GoGrid.

Campbell joins National Development Council

Former Cleveland Mayor Jane Campbell will lead the National Development Council's office of public policy and advocacy in Washington. Campbell will advocate for state and federal economic development programs such as New Markets Tax Credits, Low-Income Housing Tax Credits and Small Business Administration loans. NDC has helped finance projects in the Northwest such as Navos Mental Health Solutions clinic in Burien, the Makah tribe's fishing dock in Neah Bay and 12th Avenue Arts on Capitol Hill. It has also worked on public-private partnerships including the University of Washington School of Medicine campus in South Lake Union and Harborview Medical Center's Ninth and Jefferson Building.

Federal Home Loan Bank of Seattle

The Federal Home Loan Bank of Seattle appointed Michelle Griffith of Advocates for Real Community Housing in Ketchum, Idaho, and Andrea Davis of Homeword in Missoula, Montana, to the Affordable Housing Advisory Council. Roy Katsuda of Hale Mahaolu in Maui, Hawaii, was reappointed to represent Hawaii. Cleon Butterfield, senior vice president and chief financial officer of Utah Housing Corp., was named chair of the 2015 advisory council, and Martha McLennan, executive director of Northwest Housing Alternatives in Portland is vice chair.

U.S. Bank opens in Harborview

U.S. Bank will open a branch at Harborview Medical Center on Monday. This is the second U.S. Bank branch to open this year in a major employment center in the region. U.S. Bank opened a branch in Starbucks Center. Diana Sizar will manage the 888-square-foot branch, which will offer checking accounts, savings, loans, mortgages and investments. U.S. Bank has 92 branches in the region.

Shook, Hardy & Bacon is expanding its intellectual property and high tech practice with the addition of partners Bill Harmon and John Mulgrew in the Seattle office. Both worked at Microsoft, in the U.S. and overseas. Harmon was an assistant general counsel in the patent litigation group. Mulgrew was an assistant general counsel and team lead for patent conflicts at Microsoft. The law firm is based in Kansas City and has 12 offices in the U.S. and abroad.

Hilliard's Beer

Hilliard's Beer of Ballard has a new distribution agreement with Spendrups Bryggeri, Sweden's largest beverage distribution company. Hilliard's Amber Ale will be sold in alcohol stores and through sales agents. Ryan Hilliard and Adam Merkl opened Hilliard's Beer in 2011 to make craft beer.

Workforce Development Council

The Workforce Development Council of Seattle-King County was awarded $464,872 for youth internships. The council will lead a partnership with King County Employment and Education Resources, United Way, Seattle Public Schools, Highline Public Schools and the city of Seattle to help more than 3,000 young people.

MacKay Sposito hired Dennis Schwartz as director of energy to lead and expand the energy division. Schwartz has over two decades of experience that includes several years as a leader with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Most recently he was hydroelectric power operations manager at Bonneville Dam and a liaison between USACE, Bureau of Reclamation and Bonneville Power Administration for regional large capital investments. MacKay Sposito is a Vancouver-based consulting firm specializing in energy, public works and land development.
