Seattle-based design firm Olson Kundig hired Vikram Sami as director of building performance to focus on sustainable design and energy performance. Sami has over 16 years of experience in architecture. He works with design teams to integrate analyses of daylight, energy performance and thermal comfort into the design process. He was adjunct faculty at Georgia Institute of Technology and a past chair of the AIA Atlanta COTE Energy Taskforce.

In Seattle, Gensler hired Jacob Simons as director of design strategy. Simons will lead strategic engagement with clients, focusing on process design, business strategy, experience design and change management. He was experience design director at NBBJ, working with clients including Google, Microsoft and Kaiser Permanente. Gensler is a global architecture, design and planning firm.


Studio Meng Strazzara, a Seattle-based architecture and design firm, hired Debora Ashland as director and project architect, and R.J. Van Liere as project architect. Ashland will lead a number of public projects. She has 18 years of experience at Sound Transit, the last six as director of architecture and art. Before that, she was with Edmonds School District's capital projects office. Van Liere will work in the education and mixed-use studios. He was with DLR Group for 10 years, focusing on office, education, industrial and institutional projects.

In Seattle, BCRA hired Jon McNamara as the new landscape architecture lead. McNamara has over 17 years of experience in urban design, master planning, K-12 and college campuses, sports fields and mixed-use projects. He worked at Weisman Design Group and The Portico Group, where he was project manager on the African Adventure exhibit at Fresno Chaffee Zoo. BCRA is an architecture and engineering firm.




In Seattle, NAC Architecture hired Morgan Conway as a junior designer, Blake Webber as a designer, Ramila Madawela as a project accountant and Alicia Shupe as an office coordinator. Conway holds a bachelor in architecture from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. She has graphic design, research and presentation experience and is on the Mount Si High School project team. Webber is on the health care team. He worked at Blair + Mui Architects in New York and Kalispell Regional Healthcare on health care projects. Madawela maintains financial records for design projects, manages accounts receivable and coordinates billings. She holds a bachelor of business administration from Wichita State University. Shupe was operations manager for the Downtown Athletic Club in Eugene, Oregon. She has over nine years of customer service experience. NAC provides planning, design, engineering, and capital facilities consulting services.
Portland-based FFA Architecture and Interiors hired Joseph Storr as a project architect. Storr has over eight years of experience in Chicago and Portland on office building repositionings, mixed-use and workplace design. He is working on expansion of the Benton Center Campus for Linn-Benton Community College in Corvallis. FFA provides architecture, planning, historic preservation and interior design.

Geneva Griswold has joined SAM's conservation department as associate objects conservator. She will focus on conservation and preventive care of pre-modern collections. Her first major assignment will be preparing the Asian Art Museum collection to move when the museum temporarily closes for a renovation and expansion beginning in 2017. Griswold has worked at the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, Walters Art Museum and Getty Conservation Institute.
The Bellevue Chamber Foundation, established in 1992 to fund education programs, has announced a new annual scholarship: The M. Gail Ryder Scholarship, sponsored by Inslee Best, where Ryder has been an attorney for 44 years. It will award $2000 annually to a local high school senior with an interest in entrepreneurialism.
