Luvera Law Firm said partner David Beninger won the 2017 Tom Chambers Trial Lawyer of the Year award from the Washington State Association for Justice. The award is named after the late Washington State Supreme Court justice.

Boysen

Derek Boysen and Craig Lester joined Andy Johnson & Co. as shareholders and officers, with Boysen as senior project manager and Lester as senior superintendent. Both come from Forma Construction and have over 20 years of construction experience. Boysen studied civil engineering at St. Martin's University, and has been a project engineer, project manager, estimator and senior project manager. Lester studied construction management at Central Washington University, and has worked on education facilities as a superintendent. Andy Johnson & Co. is based in Olympia.

Flores

The Walsh Group in Seattle hired Rob Flores as project engineer. Flores previously was a project engineer at Lyncon Construction in San Jose, California, and most of his experience has been in commercial construction in Silicon Valley. He is currently working on improvements at Trailside Village Apartments in Everett.

Symetra Financial Corp. of Bellevue said Chief Financial Officer Margaret Meister will become the new president and CEO on Feb. 1, 2018, replacing Tom Marra will remain as executive chairman. Tommie Brooks, senior vice president and chief actuary, will become executive vice president and CFO. Dan Guilbert, executive vice president of the Retirement Division, will also lead the Individual Life Division. Meister joined Symetra in 1988 as an actuarial student.

JND Legal Administration

JND Legal Administration, a legal management and administration company based in Seattle, named Drew Sommer senior IT advisor, based in JND's New York office. He has 35 years of experience in software and infrastructure development.

HFF does $17.8 Bothell refi deal

Nexus Canyon Park Research Center

Holliday Fenoglio Fowler arranged a $17.8 million refinancing of Nexus Canyon Park Research Center, a 141,982-square-foot life science and flex/R&D building in Bothell. HFF's San Diego debt placement team included Tim Wright, senior director Zack Holderman and Olga Walsh. Nexus Canyon Park is on 6.96 acres at 21720 23rd Dr. S.E. Nexus acquired the then-vacant property in 1999 for an undisclosed amount. It is 37.8 percent leased to Epoch Pharmaceuticals, Qilu Puget Sound Biotherapeutics Corp. and Acucela. Nexus also owns Nexus Snoqualmie Ridge.

Guild golf tourney raises $430K

Guild Mortgage said that its 13th-annual charity golf tournament and dinner auction raised $430,000 for Redmond's Liberty Road Foundation, which funds local nonprofits that help at-risk children and families, and SAFE, a nonprofit that helps get women out of the sex trafficking trade. Guild has 27 branches in Washington state.

Sightline affordable housing event Sept. 20

The local nonprofit Sightline Institute will hold a free panel discussion Sept. 20 on “Building the Affordable City.” Guest speakers will be Daniel Kay Hertz from the Center for Tax and Budget Accountability in Chicago; and Kim-Mai Cutler from Initialized Capital in San Francisco. Sightline director Alan Durning will moderate. It starts at 7 p.m. in Rainier Arts Center, 3515 S. Alaska St. More details and RSVP at sightline.org.

Bentall Kennedy buys Portland building

Bentall Kennedy said one of its investment funds purchased Oregon Clinic Gateway Medical Office Building in Portland. CBRE represented the seller. Terms weren't disclosed. BK, which has a Seattle office, said this is its first medical office building investment in Portland. The 101,299-square-foot building is fully leased, with tenants including The Oregon Clinic and Providence St. Joseph Health.

Tacoma Water

Scott Dewhirst will be Tacoma Water's new superintendent. Dewhirst worked for Newport News Waterworks in Virginia for 17 years, and starts his job in October, after confirmation by the Public Utility Board. He also worked for Black & Veatch. Tacoma Water serves more than 329,000 people and has an annual operating budget of $92.8 million.

Zippy Shell

Zippy Shell, a nationwide moving and storage business, now is offering onsite, portable storage in Seattle. Customers can rent and load containers themselves, and the containers can be kept in locations such as construction sites, or parks and outdoor venues that want to store seasonal supplies. The containers can be shipped in a van or truck, and then collapsed and shipped back. Zippy Shell also provides storage services. The company was founded in Australia in 2007 and brought to the United States in 2010.
