Taylor

Khandelwal

King County Executive Dow Constantine appointed Anita Khandelwal as director of the Department of Public Defense and John Taylor as director of the Department of Local Services. Khandelwal was deputy director of law and policy before she was appointed interim director. She joined the department in 2015 and has been practicing law for more than a decade. Taylor was an assistant division director at the county's Department of Natural Resources & Parks. The new Department of Local Services will have permitting and road divisions to serve nearly 250,000 people in unincorporated King County.

City of Kenmore

Vicente

The city of Kenmore named John Vicente as city engineer and hired Tobin Bennett-Gold as traffic engineer. Vicente was acting city engineer for the past year. Bennett-Gold comes from Pima County Department of Transportation in Arizona.

Group Health Foundation

Nichole June Maher is president and CEO at Group Health Foundation in Seattle. Maher was president and CEO of Northwest Health Foundation and executive director of Native American Youth and Family Center, both in Portland. GHF was funded in 2017 with the proceeds from Kaiser Permanente's acquisition of Group Health Cooperative. The goal is to improve health equity.

Sodo BIA

Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan signed legislation to renew and expand the Sodo Business Improvement Area with an estimated budget of $1 million for 2019 for transportation projects, public safety improvements, community events, and increased outreach and advocacy. The city has 10 BIAs.

Haggen

Bellingham-based Haggen remodeled its grocery store in Auburn's Lakeland Hills. The new layout includes a wine bar called The Pub, and more fresh food, such as breakfasts, lunches and dinners.

Hanson

Switch, a Seattle-based financial technology company, added former Macy's executive Amy Hanson to its board and as an advisor. Hanson was executive vice president at Macy's and is experienced with credit, payments and retail.

Tacoma Rainiers

Schutt

Ashley Schutt of the Tacoma Rainiers baseball club is the Pacific Coast League's nominee for the 2018 Rawlings Woman Executive of the Year Award. Schutt is director of baseball operations and merchandise for the Rainiers. The winner will be announced in December.

Seattle City Light

The Seattle City Council confirmed Debra Smith as general manager and CEO of Seattle City Light. Since 2013, Smith has been general manager of the Central Lincoln Public Utility District in Oregon. From 1996 to 2013 she held a number of posts at Eugene Water & Electric Board.

Bellevue-based CPA firm and consultant Clark Nuber promoted several staff: Sarah Huang to principal; Lisa Cooke and Joseph O'Meara to senior managers; Shareen Corlett, Agatha Dodek, Darin Nakatsu, Jillian Nguyen, Emma Tsuber and Tyler Zetting to managers; Kolton Auxier, Kayla Harmon, Leslie Melchor and Danielle Silva to senior tax accountants; Madeleine Bergeron, Kelsey Byrd, Madison Davis, Katharine McCue and Paul Newcomb to senior auditors; Kenzie Fleischman to senior IT auditor; and Lauren Vanderlugt to senior associate of accounting and consulting.

Teatro ZinZanni

Teatro ZinZanni and Fire & Vine Hospitality formed a partnership for new shows and improvements at the Teatro ZinZanni Woodinville campus, including a renovation of the pub. They will also offer private dining and special events. The companies remain independently owned and operated.

CBRE expands Tacoma team

CBRE hired brothers Michael and Zachary Ota in its Tacoma office. They have experience with their family's property management and development company, G&K Ota Family LLC.

Hughes Marino taps attorney

Richman

Hughes Marino named attorney Kathryn Richman as its general counsel. She has two decades of experience in the field. The California-based firm specializes in representing tenants and buyers. It opened an office last year in Seattle's Russell Investments Center.

New Ballard HQ for Rad Power Bikes

Rad Power Bikes has leased 26,457 square feet at the nearly completed West Woodland Business Center in Ballard. The four-story, 72,000-square-foot project is at 1128 N.W. 52nd St., on the former Ness Cranes property, and was developed by Avenue 55 and Columbia Pacific Advisors. BCRA is the architect and Sierra Construction Co. is the contractor. CBRE's Bryan Hester represented Avenue 55. Rad will open the new HQ in January. It was founded in 2015 in Ballard. Rad's Mike Radenbaugh said in a statement, “Our company has grown so fast that we've had to move locations three times within the past three years.” The building is now 50 percent leased. Stoup Brewing is also planning an expansion there.

JLL offers 2 Totem Lake buildings

JLL is marketing Building A1 and Building A2 at Kirkland 405 Corporate Center, at 11411 N.E. 124th St., on behalf of the owner. The buildings total 130,390 square feet and are 98 percent leased. JLL's Lori Hill said, “Kirkland is a highly sought-after location among leading employers looking at the Pacific Northwest.” Another property there, Building A, sold in March for almost $14.8 million, or $357 per square foot. JLL says the Eastside vacancy rate is now at 5.9 percent.

SeaLevel plans 266 units in Everett

SeaLevel Properties is planning 266 units as part of the Port of Everett's 65-acre Waterfront Place Central redevelopment. They're scheduled for completion in 2020. A recent marketing event attracted 100 people, SeaLevel reports. Construction of the two-building complex is expected to begin next year. Everett Waterfront Apartments will be in the Fisherman's Harbor district of Waterfront Place Central. SeaLevel's John Shaw said in a statement that the turnout “confirms our instincts that there is indeed very high demand for high quality waterfront living in Everett.” Rents have not yet been set. Units will range from studios to three-bedrooms. Waterfront Place Central will have about 660 housing units, the Hotel Indigo (which broke ground in March), restaurants, and 662,000 square feet of commercial, retail and marine sales and services.
