Starbucks

Patrick Grismer was named executive vice president and CFO at Starbucks. Grismer has more than 25 years of finance experience with Hyatt Hotels, Yum! Brands and Walt Disney Co. He was CFO at Hyatt and Yum. He succeeds Scott Maw, who will retire Nov. 30 but remain until March 2019 as senior consultant.

BakerHostetler

Douglas Grady joined BakerHostetler's Intellectual Property Group as a partner in the Seattle office. Grady, an IP trial attorney, is a special assistant attorney general to Washington Attorney General Bob Ferguson, advising on intellectual property disputes. He comes from the Seattle office of Foster Pepper, where he helped develop that firm's IP practice group.

Tilth Alliance

In Seattle, Tilth Alliance named Melissa Spear its new executive director. Spear is executive director of Common Ground, a center for environmental learning and urban farming in Connecticut. She will start at Tilth in late November. Tilth supports sustainable farmers and urban gardeners.

Mod Pizza

John Maguire will become COO of Bellevue-based Mod Pizza later this month. Maguire was president and CEO of Johnny Rockets Group and FIC Restaurants, and prior to that spent 20 years at Panera Bread. Mod has more than 380 locations.

Vancouver Clinic

Vancouver Clinic and Humana are adding two primary care neighborhood clinics in Clark County. The new locations will be operated by Vancouver Clinic, and will accept all Humana Medicare Advantage HMO and PPO plans. The first will open in January at 7809 N.E. Vancouver Plaza Drive in Vancouver and the second will be added in the second half of 2019.

Odell

In Tukwila, The Walsh Group hired Jack Odell as project engineer and Tony Sippl as assistant project manager. Odell recently earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Arizona, and did estimating for North Coast Iron. He is working on the Hilltop Link Extension project. Sippl was a project manager for Payne & Dolan in Wisconsin for the last five years, and worked at J.H. Findorff & Son and Kiewit before that. He also is working on the Hilltop project.


Powell Construction Co.

Brehm

In Bellevue, Powell Construction Co. hired Tanya Brehm as contract administrator. Brehm has over 15 years of experience in construction, development and real estate, and is a licensed real estate broker.







University of Washington

A University of Washington team is one of nine regional finalists in the 2018 National Design-Build Student Competition. The contest drew 36 teams from 27 universities. Three finalists will be selected from a second phase of competition to make presentations on Nov. 8 at the Design-Build Conference and Expo in New Orleans. The contest is sponsored by the Design-Build Institute, based in Washington, D.C.

AGC Oregon-Columbia

AGC Oregon-Columbia Chapter won second place in the inaugural AGC-Autodesk Innovation Awards. The chapter was cited for its Educator Externship Program, which addresses workforce shortage challenges. Pennsylvania-based Brayman Construction and its affiliate, Advanced Construction Robotics, won the top prize for creating a rebar-tying robot for bridge projects.
