In Seattle, Walsh Construction Co. promoted Marwa Zahid to project engineer and Tanner Romo to assistant superintendent. It also hired Kyle Coit, Spencer Dailey and Lee Burkhart as project engineers, and Becky Bicknell as business development manager. Zahid joined Walsh as a project administrator in 2015. Romo joined Walsh in 2015 as a summer intern from Central Washington University and rejoined the company in 2017 as a project engineer after earning a bachelor's in construction management. Coit interned with Walsh last year and recently graduated from the University of Washington with a bachelor's in civil engineering. Dailey has over five years of experience as a lead mechanical engineer and holds a bachelor's in mechanical engineering from the University of Utah. Burkhart has many years of experience as a carpenter and lead foreman. Bicknell has over 18 years of experience developing affordable multifamily housing.

Snow

The Seattle office of Abbott Construction hired Howard Snow as controller and Jeremiah Brown and Aaron Anderson as field superintendents. Snow has over 20 years of construction accounting experience. Brown has over 29 years of construction experience as an owner of two businesses and as a framer, with experience working in hospitals and renovating historic buildings. Anderson has been in the construction industry for over 20 years, as an owner of a residential remodel business and working for several general contractors.

In Seattle, Washington Women in Trades announced the winners of the 2019 Tradeswoman Awards: Ebonee Heller, machinist at Pioneer Industries, Tradeswoman of the Year; Elenora Northington, senior inspector at Jacobs Engineering, Lifetime Achievement; Megan Cornish, outage dispatcher with Seattle City Light, Lifetime Achievement; Stephanie Colbert, journey-level carpenter with Low Income Housing Institute, Lifetime Achievement; Tawny Sayers, apprentice coordinator at Laborers Training, Lifetime Achievement; Angela Hoffman, owner of Best Finish Concrete, Women Owned Business of the Year; PJ Moss, training coordinator with the Seattle Area Pipe Trades Apprenticeship, Active Advocate; Kabri Lehrman-Schmid, project superintendent at Hensel Phelps, Workplace Leader; Rachel Montoy, tool mechanic at PSNS & IMF Bremerton, Union Activist; Andrea Ornelas, laborer with The Walsh Group, Josie Dunn Apprentice Award; and Julie Jensen, cement mason apprentice at Conco Companies, Peggy Cook Apprentice Award. Department of Commerce

Elliott

Gov. Jay Inslee appointed Russ Elliott as director of the state Department of Commerce's Broadband Office. Elliott was broadband manager for the state of Wyoming, where he implemented a broadband infrastructure grant program and helped guide legislation aimed at expanding coverage throughout Wyoming. Before that, he spent 11 years connecting rural communities to affordable internet in Colorado. The Washington Broadband Office was established by the Legislature this year to improve affordable broadband throughout the state.

Shujinko

Seattle-based startup Shujinko raised $7.5 million in funding for its software-as-a-service platform that reduces the cost and time of building and maintaining IT audit compliance. Unusual Ventures led the funding round with participation from Defy and angel investors. Funds will be used for new staff and product development. Shujinko was incubated and spun off from Pioneer Square Labs.

Fathom

Chicago-based private equity firm CORE Industrial Partners acquired Fathom, a manufacturer with expertise in 3D printing. Fathom is headquartered in Oakland, with a second facility in Seattle. Under the deal, Fathom is now part of Midwest Composite Technologies, a CORE portfolio company. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Leyard and Planar

Leyard and Planar, a global supplier of large video displays, added two showrooms in California — in Irvine and Oakland. That gives it 10 showrooms in North America. Leyard and Planar is headquartered in Hillsboro, Oregon, while parent Leyard Co. is based in Beijing.

Arcimoto

Eugene, Oregon-based Arcimoto signed its first rental franchise for its electric vehicles. The franchise will be operated in Florida by Key West-based franchisee R-KEY-MOTO LLC. It will be in Stock Island Marina Village and offer 21 vehicles that can be rented by tourists and cruise ship passengers to explore Key West.
