Sea-Tac Airport

Poke to the Max opened in Concourse D at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. The restaurant is a joint venture between chef Sam Choy and local food entrepreneurs Leeann Subelbia and Max Heigh. Poke to the Max started as a food truck. This is its only full-service restaurant.

City of Tacoma

The Tacoma City Council is seeking applications for 11 positions on the Tacoma Creates Advisory Board, which will advise on funding programs to support public arts, culture, heritage and science programs. Five openings are for community members — one from each of the five council districts. The other six openings are for those with professional expertise from each of these fields: arts, culture, heritage, science, K-12 education and community engagement/development. A 12th board member will come from the mayor's Youth Commission. Applications are due by Jan. 26. More information is at http://www.cityoftacoma.org/cbcapplication.

Amazon

Amazon, Google, Apple and the Zigbee Alliance are forming a group called Project Connected Home over IP, which will create a new smart home standard so their products can work together. The program's goal is to simplify development for manufacturers and increase compatibility for consumers. Zigbee Alliance includes Ikea, Legrand, NXP Semiconductors, Resideo, Samsung SmartThings, Schneider Electric, Signify (formerly Philips Lighting), Silicon Labs, Somfy and Wulian.

Beatty Marketing & Sales

Michigan-based Aspen Surgical Products purchased Beatty Marketing & Sales of Redmond. Beatty makes and sells orthopedic products to hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers across North America. Aspen makes surgical disposable products such as scalpels and operating room accessories. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Marchex

Seattle-based mobile advertising analytics company Marchex hired John Roswech as chief revenue officer. Roswech was executive vice president at Criteo SA and before that he was chief revenue office at HookLogic, which was bought by Criteo.

CoreStack

Bellevue-based CoreStack hired Gans Subramaniam as chief revenue officer. Subramaniam has over 15 years of experience in sales for software-as-a-service companies in the communications, media and entertainment, retail, health care and life sciences industries. He will be based out of CoreStack's San Francisco Bay Area office. CoreStack provides operational management, backup and disaster recovery services using the cloud.

Alaska National Insurance Co.

Phoenix-based CopperPoint Insurance Cos. completed its acquisition of Alaska National Corp. and its wholly owned subsidiary Alaska National Insurance Co., a workers' compensation and commercial insurance carrier based in Anchorage. Waller Helms Advisors and Locke Lord LLP advised CopperPoint. Macquarie Capital and Debevoise & Plimpton LLP advised Alaska National.

PeopleReady

Tacoma-based blue collar staffing firm PeopleReady won a silver Brandon Hall Group Excellence in Technology Award for “best advance in unique HR or workforce management technology.” PeopleReady was cited for its JobStack platform that fills a job every nine seconds. PeopleReady is a TrueBlue company. Brandon Hall Group is a research organization in the performance improvement industry.
