Clearwater Paper

In Spokane, Clearwater Paper promoted Joanne P. Shufelt to senior vice president and general manager of its consumer products division. Shufelt joined Clearwater in 2012 as vice president of sales and marketing for consumer products after holding sales leadership roles at Duro Standard Products, a private packaging company, and AbitibiBowater (now Resolute Forest Products), a pulp, paper and tissue company. Prior to that, Shufelt spent 20 years at Georgia Pacific in sales and operations. She succeeded Arsen Kitch, who became president and CEO in April. Clearwater supplies private-label tissue to major retailers and wholesale distributors, and produces bleached paperboard.

Navex Global

Navex Global named Haywood Marsh as general manager of its Lockpath business unit. Marsh is a five-year veteran of Navex and has been general manager of its NetClaim business unit for the past three years. He relocated to Navex's Kansas office, where the Lockpath business unit is located. Navex is a risk and compliance software and services company based in Lake Oswego, Oregon.

Henrybuilt

Seattle-based Henrybuilt last week reopened its manufacturing facility and flagship showroom north of Georgetown. The company is promoting social distancing, hand washing, good hygiene and appropriate PPE usage amid the pandemic. Henrybuilt designs kitchens and other areas of the home and then custom makes key built-in components for these spaces.

Tacoma Rainiers

The Tacoma Rainiers baseball team and Tacoma Defiance soccer team are extending their “R Hat R City” program, which contributes $5 from each team-licensed hat sale to the Tacoma Urban League. Hats and other merchandise can be purchased online or at the We R Tacoma Team Store at Cheney Stadium.

Molina Healthcare

Bothell-based Molina Healthcare of Washington committed over $1 million to support local communities and organizations affected by the pandemic. The initiative donates PPE, offers telehealth support to various health care providers and gives to over 100 food banks across the state. Molina provides government-funded care for low-income individuals through Medicaid, Medicare and the Health Benefit Exchange programs.

Hart Crowser hired Blake Lytle as a hydrogeologist and Thomas Tremaine as a geoscientist in Seattle, and it hired Ryan Hendrix as a geologist, Sheri Salvador as a business development specialist and Andrea Clark as a project assistant in Honolulu. Lytle holds a master's degree in hydrogeology from Clemson University, where his research focused on studying water flow with ground penetrating radar. At Clemson he also developed and directed a program that involved using drones for grants, strategic initiatives, research projects and instruction. Tremaine has a bachelor's degree in geosciences from Trinity University. He has experience as a 3D geospatial analyst, using geographic information system software to turn complex data into user-friendly formats such as maps and 3D virtual plans/models, and to calculate the volume of soil stockpiles. Hendrix holds a bachelor's degree in geology and geophysics from the University of Hawaii at Manoa School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology. He will work on projects involving rockfall hazard, landslides, building development and environmental investigation and study.

Salvador returned to Hart Crowser after 18 years. Her 20 years of marketing at health care, finance and engineering firms includes brand awareness, communications, events, databases and advertising. She also has digital marketing experience, including website development and management. She has coordinated proposals involving geotechnical engineering, landscape architecture and environmental planning and permitting issues, and has coordinated community and charity events. Clark has previously worked in the engineering industry and for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Hart Crowser added this new position to support its growing Hawaii and Pacific Island presence. The Seattle-based firm specializes in geotechnical engineering, environmental science and engineering, stormwater services and resilience engineering.

Coeur d'Alene, Idaho-based Verdis promoted Stephanie Blalack to planning manager. Blalack was hired in 2008 as a senior land use planner. She will continue to oversee local land use planning projects, but will now be involved with the engineering, surveying and landscape architecture for those projects. She has experience in all phases of land use planning, including subdivision development, conditional use permits, variances, zone changes and annexations. She previously worked in Kootenai County's Community Development Department and has a bachelor's degree in land use planning from Eastern Oregon University. Verdis is a woman-owned engineering, planning, landscape design and construction firm.

The Tembo Group

Butte-Dahl

In its Seattle office, The Tembo Group hired Jennifer Butte-Dahl as senior director. Butte-Dahl was a policy adviser to former Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz, founded a mid-career graduate program in international studies at the University of Washington and was a senior adviser in the U.S. Department of State. Tembo is a New York City-based business management consultant focusing on social issues. It is a company of APCO Worldwide, a public affairs and communications consultant.

Spaceflight

Japanese companies Mitsui & Co. and Yamasa Co. finalized their acquisition of Seattle-based Spaceflight Inc., a satellite rideshare launch provider and subsidiary of Spaceflight Industries. Under the deal, Spaceflight Inc. will continue to operate in Seattle as a privately held U.S.-based company with Curt Blake continuing as CEO and president. Since its founding in 2013, Spaceflight has launched 271 satellites on 29 rockets.

NodThera

Biotechnology company NodThera closed a $55 million round of Series B financing led by Novo Ventures and new investors Cowen Healthcare Investments and Sanofi Ventures. The round was also financed by existing investors 5AM Ventures, F-Prime Capital, Sofinnova Partners and Epidarex Capital. NodThera is using the money to advance its pipeline of drugs to treat diseases driven by chronic inflammation. The company is based in the United Kingdom and has an office in Seattle.

Symetra

Bellevue-based Symetra Life Insurance Co. awarded a $20,000 grant to Parkwood Elementary School in Shoreline as part of its Heroes in the Classroom MVP Award, which supports diversity and equity through student programs. At Parkwood, the money will fund the “I See Me” program by equipping all 22 classrooms and the school library with books, play materials and artwork that reflect the school's racial diversity. Symetra provides employee benefits, annuities and life insurance.

Kent-based Hermanson Co. hired Dan Guglielmo to lead sales and business operations in the Oregon market. Guglielmo is a third-generation mechanical contractor with experience ranging from plumber apprentice to project management to sales, marketing and business development. He previously worked for Scott Co. and JH Kelly. Hermanson provides mechanical and plumbing construction, design-build engineering and service/maintenance.

Maxim Crane Works

Maxim Crane Works expanded its summer internship program to include nearly a dozen new interns at locations across the country, including Seattle. The Cincinnati-based company has students from about six different schools working in sales, marketing, legal, human resources, engineering and operations. Maxim provides crane rental and lifting services.
