Quantum Consulting Engineers

Jack Wiggins retired from Seattle-based Quantum Consulting Engineers at the end of 2020. Wiggins was one of four people who founded the structural engineering company in 2002. He has worked on a variety of project types, including structural design of The Perkins School in Seattle, Everett Community College Health and Fitness Center in Everett, Northwest Maritime Center in Port Townsend, Federal Way Public Schools Service Center in Federal Way and the University of Washington Horticultural Center, Merrill Hall in Seattle. In a statement Wiggins said “Along with my partners past and present, we have built a remarkable company that has focused on high-quality structural engineering for our wonderful clients and design colleagues.”

In Seattle, Cushing Terrell promoted Amanda Herzberg to associate. Herzberg is the communication and brand strategy manager at the firm. She is a strategic communicator with experience building brands and executing marketing campaigns. She helps shape content strategies and digital marketing to create branded experiences. Additionally, she's led efforts to communicate more effectively internally and better utilize the firm's communications platforms. Cushing Terrell is an architecture, engineering and interior design firm.

Seattle-based Olson Kundig hired Greg Rogers as director of visualization and Shari Roberts as director of human resources, a newly created role. Rogers will lead firmwide implementation of visualization techniques, strategies and processes, shaping internal and external representation of Olson Kundig's work. He was head of visualization for WeWork and founded Reo Creative, where he helped businesses optimize and automate visualization processes, improve output and manage assets. He has over 11 years of visualization experience, including for architecture and design firms. Roberts will work with firm leaders and the existing human resources team to develop HR strategies and processes. She will focus on staff talent, and supporting and finding efficiencies across processes, spanning compensation, benefits, recruiting, staffing, employee relations, performance reviews, coaching and development. She has over 20 years of experience in human resources programming. Most recently, she was the director of people and culture for an asset management firm. Olson Kundig provides architecture, landscape architecture and interior design.

Seattle-based Cone Architecture promoted Emily Morgan to associate, Michelle LaLonde and Weicheng Li to project manager and John Shea to project captain. Also, Cone hired Najela Shamah as marketing manager, Myesha Clayton as office administrator and Angela Van Duzen, Brittney Cook, Ray Gontarz and Jacob Jordan as project designers. Morgan has six years of multifamily, mixed use and tenant improvement experience. She is leading work on mixed use apartment projects, a 16-unit townhome project and the Green Lake SPUD tenant improvement. Lalonde has over five years of multifamily and commercial project experience and is leading work on 10 low- to mid-rise projects in the Seattle area. Li has over four years of multifamily experience and continues work on the Dockside Apartments in Green Lake. Shea has five years of multifamily experience and is working on several Seattle and Tacoma mid-rise apartment projects. Cone provides architecture and planning.

Western Governors University

Sharify

Western Governors University (WGU) announced the hiring of John Sharify as communications manager for the university's Northwest region. Sharify has nearly 40 years of experience as a journalist and leader in higher education. In his role, he will lead the external storytelling efforts – identifying and securing platforms on which to share the important impact WGU, its students, and its graduates make in communities regionwide. Sharify will develop and execute multimedia strategies for audiences across a nine-state territory, which includes Alaska, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming. Sharify worked as a broadcast journalist in New York City at WPIX-TV and in Seattle at KOMO-TV and KING-TV. In 2021, he earned the Alfred I. duPont Columbia award for his King 5 documentary “Bob's Choice.” He is also a nine-time National Edward R. Murrow Award winning journalist. From 2008 to 2020, Sharify was the general manager at Seattle Colleges Cable Television. He also oversaw the city of Seattle's public access television station, Seattle Community Media. WGU Washington is an online, competency-based university designed to expand access to higher education for Washington residents.

Seattle Art Museum

The Seattle Art Museum has reopened and the Asian Art Museum is reopening to members May 7 and the public on May 28. Member tickets will be available starting April 15 and the public can get tickets starting April 29. Both the Asian Art Museum and Seattle Art Museum are open at limited capacity, Fridays through Sundays, 10 am–5 pm. Outdoor spaces at the Olympic Sculpture Park remain open to the public with the PACCAR Pavilion closed for the time being. Visitors are asked to continue to comply with all COVID-19 directives and guidance issued by the Governor and relevant public health authorities.

Ellensburg Senior Program

The Ellensburg Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) faces the possibility of closing down permanently in the fall. The program has been a part of the Ellensburg community for 47 years, providing volunteer workers to organizations in need. The program needs a sponsor in order to exist, one that can apply for a federal grant which will fund the RSVP. For the last 25 years, that sponsor has been Central Washington University. To remain as a sponsor, CWU has needed to reapply for the grant every three years, and has recently decided not to renew. To keep the program active, another nonprofit will have to apply for the federal grant through Americorps Seniors, when it becomes available at the end of the summer. The program has worked to provide senior volunteers, older than 55, to any nonprofit who needs them. RSVP would train and interview the volunteers so they had the knowledge needed to make an impact wherever they worked.

Coppinger Carter, a law firm that for over a decade has focused on personal injury, insurance and employment-related legal issues, has opened a third office in Bellevue. The Bellevue office is located at 14205 S.E. 36th St. Coppinger Carter also has offices in Bellingham and Everson. Coppinger Carter primarily serves plaintiffs in matters involving wrongful death, serious injuries, auto accidents, premise liability, insurance-related disputes, medical malpractice and employment-related disputes. The firm's founder, Carrie Coppinger Carter, is a graduate of the University of Washington and the Seattle University School of Law. She has more than 20 years of legal experience as a trial lawyer. Coppinger Carter recently was added to the list of Super Lawyers in Washington state.

PEMCO

PEMCO Mutual Insurance hired Arif Arain as its new director, data governance. Arain joins the Seattle-based insurer with experience in data governance, data management, data warehousing and solutions in other data related disciplines, leading teams in the insurance, investments and banking sectors. In his role at PEMCO, Arain and his team will collaborate with other teams in information technology and business to create a new data governance discipline, establishing a foundation for data provisioning, information delivery and data quality management. Prior to joining PEMCO, Arain led data governance and information management initiatives for highly regulated institutions, including Allstate Investments, SunTrust Bank and Key Bank.

Tanium

Kirkland-based Tanium, a provider of endpoint management and security built for IT environments, announced that it ranked 26 on FORTUNE Magazine's list of 2021 Best Workplaces in Technology in the “large company” category. This marks the company's fourth consecutive appearance on FORTUNE's lists, which rank employers based on employee-reported quality and consistency of workplace experience. In early 2020 the company announced a permanent move to a remote-first workforce. In Monroe, Canyon Creek Cabinet Co. promoted executive vice president Max J. Caldas to president and CEO. Caldas joined Canyon Creek in early 2019, taking over responsibility for sales, marketing, customer service, product engineering and development, quality management and showroom operations. He has nearly 30 years of residential building products experience, previously as vice president at American Woodmark Corp., and in various sales and marketing leadership roles at Robert Bosch Tool Corp. and ClosetMaid. He replaces Robert Foote, who is leaving at the end of the month to pursue another opportunity.

Local mechanical engineering and construction company UMC hired Brian Presnell as senior business development representative and Eric Guizzetti as reality capture operations manager, both for the company's new Reality Capture + Equipment business line. Presnell has 20 years of experience delivering emerging industry technologies to design, engineering and construction leaders. At UMC, he is pairing Leica's scanning and positioning technology to construction ecosystems that require virtual representations of physical assets. Guizzetti is responsible for scanning projects and selling Leica products, as UMC is an authorized reseller of Leica equipment. He has been in the construction industry for 30 years, including 10 years in virtual design and construction. He previously was a project engineer, superintendent and project manager for a large general contractor in California.

John Henry's Renton Sheet Metal

John Michael “Mike” Henry, longtime Seattle mechanical contractor, passed away at his home in Henderson, Nevada, on April 4 at age 84. Henry spent his formative years in Kitsap County. In 1952, his family moved to Moses Lake and his father founded Moses Lake Sheet Metal, where John first worked as an apprentice sheet metal worker, then advanced to estimating and project management. He took over the business in 1963 after his father died in an industrial accident. Five years later, he sold the business and moved to the Bay Area, where he was a junior partner at Valley Sheet Metal. He later returned to the Seattle area to open John Henry's Renton Sheet Metal, and had stints with Sweeney Mechanical, PSF Fabricators and Key Mechanical Co. of Washington. Henry also owned TRC Inc. for 14 years until 1996, and worked as a marketing consultant to mechanical and electrical contractors until his death. He had a hand in many notable projects, including Paccar's headquarters, SeaTac Mall and the three Renton Place office buildings.

Slead Construction/Dewatering

Houston-based Griffin Dewatering bought part of Slead Construction/Dewatering of Tacoma. Financial terms of the deal were not announced. Slead has been in business for over 60 years. Griffin, a portfolio company of Crossplane Capital, has provided groundwater control services and pumping equipment to the construction industry since 1934. During the past five years, Griffin has opened new locations and expanded its service offerings, with 10 locations across the country.
