Pedroza

Seattle Public Schools Interim Superintendent Brent Jones has appointed Concie Pedroza as associate superintendent. Pedroza most recently served as the district's chief of Student Support Services leading the departments of Advanced Learning, Admissions, Enrollment Planning, Athletics, Special Education, and Student 504 accommodations. As associate superintendent, Pedroza will supervise the divisions of Schools and Continuous Improvement and Students Support Services. Pedroza began her career as a classroom teacher over 25 years ago and later served as an elementary, K-8, and high school principal. Pedroza was later selected as the first principal of Seattle World School, supporting immigrant and refugee students representing over 35 languages. Pedroza earned her master's degree in educational leadership & policy studies and doctorate in education leadership from the University of Washington.

Itron

Itron announced the appointment of Santiago Perez, a senior advisor at Arsenal Capital Partners and former executive at Schneider Electric, to its board of directors. Perez brings nearly 35 years of sales, product management and service operations experience in high-tech industries, including the energy, building automation and industrial automation sectors. Prior to his engagement with Arsenal, Perez served as chief commercial digital officer and senior vice president of U.S. services and solutions at Schneider Electric. He also held several leadership roles at Johnson Controls, including vice president and general manager for Europe, Middle East, Africa and Latin America, where he led the company's sales, distribution, contracting and service operations, as well as vice president of global business lines and operations. Itron, headquartered in Liberty Lake, enables utilities and cities to deliver infrastructure solutions to communities in more than 100 countries.

Arcimoto

Arcimoto, makers of affordable and efficient electric vehicles for everyday drivers and fleets, opened its new rental center in Eugene, Oregon. Rentals can be booked at Arcimoto.com/rental. Mark Frohnmayer is the founder and CEO of Arcimoto. Arcimoto Eugene is located at 135 Blair Blvd. From there, guests will be able to rent FUVs and explore downtown Eugene, Hayward Field, and the Southern Willamette Valley. Arcimoto Eugene is the fourth Arcimoto rental location, with rentals also available at Arcimoto San Diego, Arcimoto Key West, and GoCar Tours in San Francisco. Every Arcimoto vehicle is built at the Arcimoto manufacturing plant in Eugene.

In Seattle, Walsh Construction Co. promoted Juanita McLaughlin to project manager, Adam Parga to superintendent, Craig Gamble to general superintendent, Steve Schneider to senior project manager, Ryan McBarron to earthwork trade superintendent, Jason White to field operations coordinator, Ryan Gidley to project engineer, and Nick Huylar and Joe Geise to assistant superintendents. McLaughlin joined Walsh in 2015 as a project engineer and was promoted to assistant superintendent in 2018, followed by a promotion to assistant project manager in 2020. Parga joined the company as a project engineer in 2018 and transitioned to assistant superintendent in early 2020. He was a facilities services director for the Civil Engineering Unit of the Coast Guard. Gamble has been with Walsh since 2003, originally as a superintendent. Schneider has been with the company since 1995 as a general superintendent. He previously operated Schneider Construction for over 15 years. McBarron originally joined Walsh as a labor foreman and was promoted in 2018 to assistant superintendent. White has been with the company for 14 years, starting as a laborer and moving up to labor foreman in 2013. Gidley joined Walsh in 2004 as a laborer, left to work at Metro Parks Tacoma, and then rejoined Walsh in 2010 as a laborer. In 2013, he became labor foreman and earned his master rigger certification soon after. Huylar interned at the company and then graduated from Washington State University with a bachelor's degree in construction management, rejoining Walsh as a project engineer. Geise joined the company in 2014 as a carpenter and later became carpenter foreman. In 2015, he began supporting the layout and concrete divisions and was promoted in 2019 to layout trade assistant superintendent.

Garco Construction hired Doug Hartley as director of operations for its Tacoma office. The company says Hartley has an extensive background in operations management, manufacturing, production and leadership. In his new role, Hartley will focus on growing the company brand and culture as Garco expands in the Puget Sound area. Garco is based in Spokane and employs over 350 people. It offers construction, construction management and design-build services for commercial, civil, education, hospitality, military and other project types.

Burrows

Panopto, a video management system provider in the enterprise and higher education markets, announced that Adrianna Burrows, a technology and marketing veteran, has joined its board of directors. Burrows is CMO of Payscale, where she is accountable for all marketing plans and programs including branding, product, positioning, corporate communications, demand generation, and go-to-market strategy. She is currently a member of the board of directors of Stack Overflow. Burrows also served as CMO of Cornerstone OnDemand and CMO of Stack Overflow. Previously, Burrows worked at Microsoft, serving as general manager of Windows Global Marketing, where she led the global launch of Windows 10. Panopto is headquartered in Seattle, with offices in Pittsburgh, London, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Sydney.

Tacoma Planning Commission

The Tacoma City Council is looking to fill two positions on the Planning Commission, the District Nos. 3 and 5 positions. Applicants seeking a district position must reside in that district and will serve a term of three years from July 1, 2021, to June 30, 2024. The Planning Commission develops and updates the Comprehensive Plan and its elements and formulates effective and efficient land use and development regulations and processes that implement the Comprehensive Plan. The commission also reviews various planning issues, such as area-wide zoning reclassifications, moratoria, interim zoning, pre-annexation planning, historic district designation, urban design, and transportation and capital facilities programs. Applications must be submitted to the clerk's office by the end of day Friday, June 18, 2021. Greater Seattle Partners in coordination with 200 regional community leaders in academia, business, government and not-for-profit from Snohomish, King and Pierce counties launched a new regional economic recovery framework to accelerate recovery from Covid-19 and build a more resilient, equitable and inclusive economy. Chaired by former Governor Gary Locke, Tacoma Mayor Victoria Woodards, and Betsy Cadwallader, market president for US Bank, the “Partners for Prosperity” Task Force assembled a portfolio of initiatives and metrics focused on: improving the quality and diversity of jobs in key sectors, developing diverse talent, creating more good jobs and successful minority and women-owned firms, and connecting people to jobs by reducing geographical barriers.

The Standard

The board of directors of StanCorp Financial Group, and primary operating subsidiary Standard Insurance Company (The Standard) announced that Dan McMillan, president and chief operating officer, will become president and chief executive officer and a member of the board of directors effective July 1, 2021. J. Greg Ness, chairman and chief executive officer, who announced his decision to retire as CEO, will continue to serve as executive chairman of the board. Ness joined The Standard in 1979, and was appointed president and COO in September 2008 and then president and CEO in May 2009. He became chairman of the board in December 2011. McMillan, who joined The Standard in 1989, was appointed president and chief operating officer in December 2020.
