Cochran Marine

Cochran Inc. announced the acquisition of its marine division by Vice President Mike Watts. It will now be Watts Marine. The firm has housed Cochran Marine, under the leadership of Watts, for more than a decade. Watts Marine has been in the works since early 2019. Cochran Marine has been a leading provider of shore power systems for the ship industry since its founding in 2005, and has supplied its patented electrical power systems to more than half a dozen ports, ranging from San Diego, CA, to Brooklyn, NY, and into Nova Scotia. Watts, together with the Cochran leadership, has planned a seamless transition for customers and vendors. Watts Marine will continue the installation, management and coordination of shore power.

Parametrix hired six new surveyors to join the firm's offices in Seattle, Puyallup, Bremerton, Portland and Bend. Steve McCaskey, PLS joins the firm's Seattle office as a surveying supervisor, leading the companies Puget Sound survey group. He has 23 years of land surveying experience. McCaskey previously worked at Parametrix from 2009 to 2015, leading the Seattle survey practice. He returns to Parametrix from Encompass where he oversaw the survey department, focused on private clients performing records of survey, platting, American Land Title Association (ALTA) surveys, boundary line adjustment (BLA) surveys, and construction staking.

Chris Robinson, PS, CFedS joins the firm's Portland office as surveying supervisor. He has 15 years of experience in land surveying, including boundary resolution, platting, and overall project management. He comes to Parametrix from Westlake Consultants, Inc. where he served as development survey manager. He is a licensed professional land surveyor in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Colorado, Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Arkansas. He is also a Certified Federal Surveyor.

Camden Beeghly joins the firm's Portland office as a surveyor with 7 years of experience. Beeghly comes to Parametrix from Quantum Spatial, Inc. where he served as a survey analyst. Dylan Tucker joins the firm's Bremerton office as a surveyor with 5 years of experience. Tucker comes to Parametrix from Abbie Jones Consulting in Lexington, Kentucky where he served as a field surveyor. Jordon Ford joins the firm's Puyallup office as a surveyor I. Ford comes to Parametrix from Northwest WoodWorks Inc. where he served as a project engineer. Kevin Clarke joins the firm's Bend office as a surveyor with 1 year of experience. Clarke comes to Parametrix from Larry Steele & Associates where he served as a junior party chief.

Welch Comer, a regional engineering firm with offices in Spokane and Coeur d'Alene, has promoted two of the firm's principal engineers to vice president, Necia Maiani and Matt Gillis. Necia Maiani, P.E., has worked with Welch Comer for 21 years, specializing in water treatment, wells, distribution systems, water rights, and wastewater treatment and collection. In her new role as vice president, Maiani will continue to serve clients in North Idaho and Eastern Washington but will also be responsible for streamlining the firm's operations and administration departments. She also serves as manager for the company's Spokane office, which opened in October 2021. A graduate of the University of Idaho, Maiani serves on the Kootenai County Aquifer Protection District.

Matt Gillis, P.E., has 22 years of experience as a transportation engineer. He has led Welch Comer's transportation group since 2006, helping clients and staff navigate high-profile and complex projects involving multiple jurisdictions, utilities, funding and public involvement. In his new role, Gillis will lead business development and market expansion efforts for the firm. The University of Idaho graduate is a longtime resident of Post Falls.

Hanford Mission Integration Solutions

Richland-based Hanford Mission Integration Solutions donated over $25,000 of goods and cash to local nonprofit organizations for the holiday season. HMIS gave boxes of winter clothing, personal care items and household goods to Domestic Violence Services of Benton and Franklin Counties and Mid-Columbia Meals on Wheels. HMIS also gave each organization $2,500 in cash. The company gave movie tickets to unhoused teens at My Friend’s Place shelter, as well as to hundreds of students at Boys & Girls Clubs of Benton and Franklin Counties. Additional year-end donations were made to Second Harvest, Columbia Basin Veterans Center, United Way of Benton and Franklin Counties, and Habitat for Humanity. HMIS is the team of Leidos, Centerra Group and Parsons. It has the essential services contract at the Hanford Site.

Columbia Bank announced the promotion of Heather Seppa to retail market manager for the Columbia/Willamette market in Oregon. She also joined the retail leadership group. Seppa is a 17-year veteran of Columbia Bank with more than three decades of leadership experience in the financial services industry. She formerly was a regional manager for the bank's Oregon Coast/Southwest Washington region. Prior to joining Columbia in 2004, Seppa was an executive vice president at Bank of Astoria in Oregon. After the acquisition of Bank of Astoria, she served as president of Bank of Astoria from 2009-2013 when it operated as a wholly owned subsidiary of Columbia Bank. Seppa is the past president of the Astoria/Warrenton Chamber of Commerce. Columbia Bank is headquartered in Tacoma.

Seattle-based bttn, a health-tech startup, announced the addition of Steve Nielsen, a healthcare industry veteran, to its advisory board. Nielsen has served as CEO for McKesson Medical, Activus Medical, and LABSCO. He has experience managing multiple billion-dollar healthcare and medical supply business units, and served as a board member to Golden State Medical Supply, Concordance Healthcare, Core Scientific Creations and TopRx. He has been an advisor to a wide range of healthcare companies across the spectrum, including medical/surgical products distribution, medical devices, and pharmaceuticals. Nielsen will serve a two-year term, and joins bttn's other advisors, including Amol Deshpande, CEO and founder of Farmers Business Network and Divergent Investments, and Brendan Fallis, founder of Leawood Capital.

Tanium

Tanium announced that Jim Whitehurst has joined the company's board of directors as an independent director. Whitehurst is a senior advisor to IBM and special advisor to Silver Lake, a global technology investment firm. Prior to being named president of IBM in 2020, Whitehurst served as president and CEO of Red Hat, an open source software company, for over 12 years. In July 2019, he led the acquisition of Red Hat to IBM for $34 billion, marking the largest software acquisition in history, and the largest premium ever paid for a large-cap software asset. Whitehurst is the 2001 recipient of the Thomson-IVR “Deal of the Year” award, an accolade he achieved as acting treasurer of Delta Airlines. Whitehurst held several titles at Delta Airlines including chief operations officer, where in addition to taking full responsibility of all the airline's operations, he led the company turn around through bankruptcy restructuring. He currently sits on the board of directors for United Airlines and Duke University Health Systems as well as Rice University board of trustees and Bank Santander's international advisory board. Tanium, headquartered in Kirkland, is a platform used to gain visibility and control across all endpoints in on-premises, cloud and hybrid environments.

Cone Architecture promoted Summer McEneny to principal and Emily Terzic to project manager. Cone also hired Tori Haynes, Hailey Helms, and Connor Stein as project designers. McEneny is a licensed architect in Washington and North Carolina and earned a BArch from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She joined Cone in 2016, leads the design and management of a wide variety of residential and mixed-use projects, and is managing Cone Architecture’s office in Charlotte, NC. Terzic earned a MArch from the University of Washington and has over 6 years of multifamily, mixed use, and tenant improvement experience. Cone?provides?architectural design, planning, project management, and construction administration services.

Akana

Akana was recognized as one of Bechtel Corporation's top subcontractors for the companies work on the US Army Pueblo Chemical Agent Pilot Plant Project in Colorado. Akana supported Bechtel by providing independent third-party quality assurance audits of facility changes required to process a new munition type through the plant. Akana was able to quickly field a team of chemical agent processing experts to complete the audit and was successful in getting state approval to begin operations. Akana is a Native American owned professional services firm helping clients plan, design, engineer and manage projects in the built environment.

Madrona has appointed three new strategic directors: Sunny Gupta, Charlotte Hubbert and Mark Nelson. Gupta, Hubbert and Nelson will work with Madrona portfolio company founders and executives, sharing their insight and operating experiences as leaders in their industries. Gupta is the co-founder and CEO of Apptio. Since founding Madrona-backed Apptio in 2007, he pioneered a market category, Technology Business Management, and led Apptio to an IPO in 2016 and through its subsequent acquisition by Vista Equity Partners. He is a current board member at Gainsight. Hubbert is senior director of business development and strategic alliances at Nanostring. She was previously partner and head of Gates Foundation Venture Capital, a $500M initiative at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Strategic Investment Fund. Hubbert currently holds board seats at City of Hope, LUCA Biologics and Entrinsic Health Solution. Nelson is the president and CEO of Tableau, a Salesforce company. Prior to that, he was the CTO at Concur, working closely with Madrona managing director Steve Singh. Additionally, Madrona recently added full time investment professionals Aseem Datar, Maria Gilfoyle, Sabrina Wu and Birkan Uzun. Madrona is a venture capital firm based in Seattle, and invests predominantly in seed and Series A rounds across the information technology spectrum.
