Wolfe

HKP Architects has welcomed Rebecca Wolfe as project manager, architect.

Wolfe earned a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture and Urbanism in 2015 from Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts and a Master of Architecture in 2019 from Montana State University in Bozeman. A born-and-raised Alaskan, her interest in design for the Circumpolar North led her on a year of graduate study at the world's northernmost architecture school at the University of Oulu, Finland in 2016-2017.

Wolfe brings a wide range of project experience to HKP Architects, from historic preservation and adaptive reuse to multi-family housing. She previously worked with William Merriman Architects and Lumen Design in Anchorage, Alaska and Cater Design Group in Bakersfield, California. She achieved licensure in Alaska in 2023 and is currently pursuing licensure in Washington.

Olson Kundig has promoted the following 11 team members to associate: Jay Bills, Michael Cady, Brandon Crain, Marie Daskalas, Patricia Flores, Ekram Hassen, Connor Irick, Eunice Kim, Megan Marshall, Ryan Patterson, and Vaidotas Vaiciulis.

Bills has worked across a wide variety of project types, including hospitality, workplace, and multi-family, with an emphasis and passion for single-family residential and interior architecture. He works closely with clients and collaborators to realize spaces that are centered in authenticity, utility, and joy.

Vaiciulis

Cady has a range of experience on multiple building types and scales, including building rehabilitation /renovation, retail, commercial office, education, residential, and cultural projects. His proficiency in both design and technical facets has allowed him to successfully navigate through numerous intricate and complex design challenges.

Crain has both design and construction experience across a variety of project types, ranging from commercial to cultural projects, with a focus on residential work. He has been involved in internal Quality Control and Research & Development working groups.

Daskalas is an interior designer whose work focuses on the firm's single-family, multi-family, and hospitality sectors. She is a dedicated collaborator and mentor to her teammates and seeks to build and strengthen relationships with external partners throughout the design process, including clients, contractors, makers and tradespeople.

Flores is a dedicated project architect and project manager with a current focus on single-family residential work and a passion for designing within rural landscapes. Informed by her background in design-build environments, she is especially interested in project execution and the integration of architecture and construction processes.

Hassen works primarily on single-family residential projects, ranging from small cabins in remote landscapes to large urban homes. She is a champion of pro bono work within the office and works to foster an engaging and collaborative process for all team members.

Irick has a range of diverse project experience, including ongoing work in the single-family residential and commercial sectors, as well as prefabricated design. Guided by previous experience in custom metal fabrication, he is especially interested in elevating accessible and equitable materials through a high level of design detail and attention to craft.

Kim is an interior designer who has worked on hospitality projects around the globe, drawing inspiration from her background in furniture design and deep appreciation for hand-crafted objects.

Marshall has a range of professional experience on a variety of project types, including single-family and multi-family residential, hospitality, and workplace. She is an active member of an internal committee tasked with developing and implementing new design standards for the firm's work in the hospitality and multi-family sectors.

Patterson works across several project sectors, spanning single-family residential, adaptive re-use and repositioning, retail, hospitality, and prefabricated projects, as well as design competitions.

Vaičiulis has experience working on a range of projects and scales, spanning cultural, residential, mixed-use buildings throughout Europe and the United States, with a current focus on luxury hospitality and private residences.

Wilson Engineering

Darrow

Wilson Engineering, LLC has announced the promotion of Paul Darrow to the position of survey department manager, replacing J. Thomas Brewster. Brewster has been with Wilson Engineering since 1994, serving as survey manager since 2010. He will continue with the company as a partner and principal surveyor.

Darrow has 23 years of experience as a surveyor, including nine years at Wilson Engineering. He began surveying in Montana and has since traveled the West from Oregon to Alaska performing field surveys and providing office support for boundary, transportation and facility projects of all sizes.

Darrow is a Certified Federal Surveyor and is authorized to perform boundary surveys within and abutting Federal Lands. For the last several years at Wilson he has managed public infrastructure related mapping projects helping improve water quality, pedestrian safety, transportation and natural habitats throughout the Puget Sound Region.

State Recreation and Conservation Funding Board

Bugert

Shiosaki

Gov. Jay Inslee has appointed Seattle resident Michael Shiosaki as chair and Leavenworth resident Robert “Bob” Bugert to a seat on the Washington State Recreation and Conservation Funding Board.

The board awards about $200 million in grants every other year to tribes, nonprofits and government agencies to create parks, trails and other outdoor recreation opportunities. The board also awards grants to conserve the state's natural resource heritage by protecting working farms and forests and wildlife habitat, including places inhabited by plants and animals found nowhere else in the world.

Shiosaki has served on the board since May 2016. He is the director of the Bellevue Parks and Community Services Department. Previously, he led the Planning and Development Division of the Seattle Parks and Recreation Department and served as the Sammamish deputy parks director. In addition to his work, he is a licensed landscape architect, a member of the Washington Recreation and Park Association and the American Society of Landscape Architects.

Bugert was appointed to fill Shiosaki's old seat. Bugert is the former District 2 Chelan County commissioner. Previously, he was the executive director of the Chelan-Douglas Land Trust, a policy advisor for the Governor's Salmon Recovery Office and spent eight years serving on the Washington State Salmon Recovery Funding Board. His term runs until December 31, 2026.

MCAWW

Cowper

The board of the Mechanical Contractors Association of Western Washington appointed Robin Cowper as the organization's new executive director. MCAWW says Cowper brings a wealth of experience to her new role, having worked in various roles at the association for the past two decades. Those roles included serving as a trustee on the health and supplemental pension trusts, participating in labor negotiations, teaching classes and chairing the Seattle Area Pipe Trades JATC committee. In 2014, she obtained the Certified Association Executive designation. Prior to joining MCAWW, she worked for seven years at UMC. Cowper succeeds Ed Kommers, who served as the association's executive director since 2009 and continues in the role of advisor.

Swinerton Inc. promoted Ray Haj to chief operations officer and executive vice president. In his new role, Haj will oversee Swinerton and its subsidiaries, including Swinerton Builders and Timberlab. Haj joined Swinerton Builders in 2001 as a senior scheduler and has been integral to the company's growth. He became corporate manager of project controls in 2006, leading in-house training initiatives centered on elevating project delivery and scheduling best practices. Most recently, Haj was senior vice president and regional manager, overseeing business growth in Southern California and Hawaii. He succeeds David Callis, who assumed the role of CEO. Concord, California-based Swinerton has a local office in Bellevue. Timberlab is a holistic provider of mass timber systems with a Northwest office in Portland.

Port of Seattle

Mohamed

The Port of Seattle Commission elected Hamdi Mohamed commission president for 2024. Commissioner Toshiko Hasegawa will serve as commission vice president, with commissioner Ryan Calkins serving as commission secretary. In November 2021, Mohamed made history as the first Somali woman elected to public office in Washington state and the first Black woman elected to the Port of Seattle Commission. She also holds the distinction of being the first Black woman to serve on any of the 75 ports in Washington. The port owns and operates Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, Fishermen's Terminal and public marinas. The port also owns two cruise ship terminals, a grain terminal, real estate assets, and marine cargo terminals through its partnership in the Northwest Seaport Alliance.

Bordeaux Wealth Advisors, a boutique investment advisory and wealth management firm, promoted Phil Platt to managing partner. Platt currently serves as the firm's chief operating officer and is based in Bordeaux's Seattle office. Platt brings 20 years of experience leading the operations of wealth management, serving high-net-worth individuals and families. Bordeaux also has an office in Silicon Valley.

Baker

Adaptiva announced that Anne Baker has returned to the company, where she previously served as vice president of product management and marketing, to now head marketing initiatives worldwide. As chief marketing officer, Baker will lead growth programs and drive market awareness for Adaptiva's autonomous endpoint management products. Baker has more than 25 years of technology marketing experience at high-growth companies. Prior to Adaptiva, she was head of worldwide partner programs at analytics and AI company Teradata, where she drove go-to-market activities with AWS, Google and Microsoft, as well as the hundreds of partners in the Teradata ecosystem. Baker also served as general manager of partner marketing at the AI-powered contract intelligence company Icertis. Adaptiva is headquartered in Kirkland, with offices in Chicago and London.
