On the Block: Expedia moves quietly into Interbay

Expedia Group arriving in Interbay is less like the frontal invasion of a projected 4,500 workers than a series of stealthy beachhead raids. You barely notice the new blue shuttle buses traversing Mercer to get to 1111 Expedia Group Way W., aka the former Amgen-Immunex campus, which the company acquired in 2015 for almost $229 million.

The move is being done in phases, as was explained to me during a recent, rainy visit to the mostly deserted new headquarters campus. Only a few hundred had made the move from Seattle locations (as of early October). As a result, the newly refurbished buildings were eerily hushed and empty. All the fresh desks, chairs and computer monitors were free of fingerprints or food stains. There were no footprints on the carpeting, no sit marks on the couches. The landscaping outside seemed untouched by human hand. Weird.
