Ten years ago the notion of Burien as a paragon of urban planning was, at best, laughable. But now that the Southend community is on the verge of actually starting the $117 million Town Square project, peer cities are taking notice.
Burien, which incorporated in 1993 to stop willy-nilly multi-family development, now is embracing controlled residential growth. In an effort to bring 300 housing units to its core, council members approved a multi-family housing tax-exemption program. That was on Monday.
