Builders Brick Co. had one of two brick factories that operated on the site. Builders Brick changed its name in 1966 to Mutual Materials. Most of Pioneer Square was rebuilt with brick from the site after the 1889 fire.
Open-pit clay mining ended about 60 years ago on the soggy west slope of Beacon Hill, below 4001 12th Ave. S.
