On the Block: Amazon extends its WFH policy indefinitely. Now what?
The great debate is this: WFH or BTO? As in, work-from-home versus back-to-office. Before the delta surge of the pandemic, back in April, I wrote what I now recognize to be Part I of this ongoing battle. The story peg this spring was Amazon, Microsoft, Google and others setting variously hard or soft deadlines for a return to the office.
It was then believed that tech workers would be back at their desks by the fall or winter. Office occupancy rates would rise. Leasing would pick up. Maybe your favorite downtown deli might reopen. How naive we were.
