More lenders willing to take a big gamble on home loans

I'm having a problem understanding how far some lenders are willing to go to extend credit. The thought crossed my mind again recently when I heard an advertisement on the radio that stated "you don't need eq-uity, you only need a phone" to qualify for a home mortgage.
