Appraisers fear database

The chief appraiser and national manager for real estate appraisals for the nation’s largest mortgage lender said a reported appraisal boycott is shortsighted and that some of the boycotting members do not truly understand the benefits of the new system.
Sue Potteiger of Washington Mutual Bank said the recent boycott organized by Appraisal Central against lenders using the Appraisal Institute Residential Database (AIRD) is “impotent and not headed anywhere.’’
