Reverse mortgages gain favor as stocks slump

“You get used to living a certain way,’’ said Luther Sitton, 79. “And the dollars simply haven’t been there for me lately to live that way.’’

Sitton, who likes to spend his summers on bicycle trips with riders half his age, is pondering ways to produce more income now that some of his stocks have turned sour and his certificates of deposit are hard-pressed to earn 4 percent.
