Loan refi settlement leaves couple hurting

For Neil and Elsie Nelson, enjoying the holidays will be more difficult this year. The Bellingham couple is struggling to remain in their home, thanks to the terms of an outrageous loan refinance they claim a subsidiary of Illinois-based Household International persuaded them to accept.
“We’ve had to borrow – even from my sister in Georgia – to stay here,’’ said Elsie, 58. “It’s been a real stressful time. We’ve had to cut back on everything. And, it’s Neil’s birthday this week.’’
