Washington State Convention & Trade Center

Robert Flowers has been appointed to the Washington State Convention & Trade Center (WSCTC) Board of Directors. Flowers is the senior vice president for the division of executive commercial real estate lending operations at Washington Mutual Bank. Phyllis Lamphere has been reappointed to the WSCTC Board. Other members include Frank Finneran, Dorothy Bullitt, Rick Bender, Gary Grant and Albert Rosellini.

Westin

Westin Hotels & Resorts has announced that it will manage its first property in Guam, The Westin Resort Guam. The acquisition of the property is a result of a recently negotiated contract with MDI Guam Corporation, a Japanese development and real estate company. The 21-story Westin resort is located along Tumon Bay. Westin now manages 19 properties in the Asia-Pacific region.

Alaska Housing Finance Corporation

Fairbanks accountant Michael Cook has been named to the board of directors of the Alaska Housing Finance Corporation (AHFC). Cook has worked for various state agencies, cities, boroughs, banks, and other private sector companies including ANCSA corporations and charitable groups. AHFC is a public corporation that finances mortgage loans from private lending institutions in Alaska through the issuance of taxable and tax-exempt bonds. Governed by a seven-member board of directors, AHFC is also responsible for the state's rural, elderly, student and low-income housing programs.

Hoy Management & Investment, Inc.

Jack Bornstein has joined the Bellevue firm of Hoy Management & Investment, Inc. as the community sales manager for Alki Beach Towers, a condominium development in West Seattle. He previously sold new homes with Intacorp and Windemere Builder Services. Mark Bornstein has also joined Hoy Management & Investment, Inc., as director of sales and marketing. He is president of Marketing Decisions, a real estate marketing consultation firm. Mark will continue his consulting practice while working on all of Hoy Management properties.

Cinnabon

Cinnabon World Famous Cinnamon Rolls has promoted Stuart Young to executive vice president for development, and has named Kern Gillette as chief financial officer, a new position at Cinnabon. Previously, Young served at vice-president for real estate and the company's design and construction department. He will now take on broader corporate development and strategic responsibilities and continue to lead the company's real estate, design and construction. Gillette will be responsible for Cinnabon's financial planning, treasury, accounting, auditing, controlling, and purchasing. Most recently, he was the chief financial officer for Reese Brothers. Based in Seattle, Cinnabon is the leading cinnamon roll bakery retailer in North America with more than 325 company-owned and franchises bakeries in 35 states, Canada and Mexico.

First Heritage Bank

First Heritage Bank has made the following promotions. Tom Johnson has been promoted to vice president. Johnson previously was the Arlington Branch manager and was head of the bank's mortgage lending department. Nicki Axtman and Dori Lowell have both been promoted to assistant vice presidents. Axtman was the commercial loan officer at the Snohomish branch. Lowell was the banks compliance officer. First Heritage Bank is an independent, locally-owned community bank specializing in small business financing. Branches are located in Snohomish, Monroe, Marysville, and Arlington.

Safeco Properties

Safeco Properties, Inc. has made the following promotions. Gretchen Heins, environmental risk manager, Lee Murray, assistant controller, and Karen Snyder, risk manager, have each been promoted to assistant vice president of Safeco Properties. Within Winmar Company, Inc., a Safeco Properties subsidiary, Don Berg, project manager, Elizabeth Wilson, project manager and assistant vice president, have both been promoted to vice president. Marily Sande, leasing representative, has been named assistant vice president of Winmar. Safeco Properties, Inc., is the real estate investment arm of Safeco Corporation. It develops, owns, operates, and manages regional shopping centers, mixed-use projects and office buildings nationwide through the Winmar Company.

Paragon Real Estate

Eric P. Smith has joined Paragon Real Estate Advisors, Inc. as a principal and a broker. Smith will represent buyers and sellers in the listing and sale of investment real estate, primarily apartment properties in the Seattle area. Smith has six years of previous brokerage experience as well as a property management background.

CB Commercial

CB Commercial Real Estate has announced the promotion of Daran Davidson to senior associate and Mike Schreck to associate. Davidson joined CB Commercial in 1990 and specializes in industrial property sales and leasing in the Bellevue office. Schreck has been with CB Commercial for over three years and is specializing in property sales and leasing in the Bellevue office.

Mark Meaker has announced the formation of 1 Summit Investments, based in Everett. Meaker, who has a background in real estate acquisition and renovation, as well as home inspection, has shifted his focus to the purchase and brokering of seller-held mortgages, structured settlements, business notes, lottery payments and a wide variety of other payments streams. "We are here to help people get cash today for all or part of the payment stream they have contracted to receive over the next several years."

J.D. Bukota has joined the office team of Rowley Enterprises, Inc., an Issaquah-based property management and development firm, to handle public relations, marketing and advertising.

Windermere Foundation

The Windermere Foundation reached the $2 million mark in total funds raised since its inception on January 1, 1989. Created by Windermere Real Estate agents in an effort to help all families find housing, the foundation has provided housing and related services to hundreds of homeless children and adults throughout the Northwest.

NAIOP's September 18 meeting

September's breakfast meeting will feature Phil Bussey speaking about the Washington Roundtable. Bussey is the president of the Washington Roundtable, a public policy research and advocacy group comprised of 34 chief executive officers of state companies such as Boeing, Seafirst, Microsoft and Weyerhaeuser.
