R.D. Merrill and Merrill Gardens

R.D. Merrill Co. and Merrill Gardens, a Seattle-based owner and operator of senior housing communities, won top honors in the Best In The Northwest Washington Family Business Awards that Pacific Lutheran University's Family Enterprise Institute sponsors. Merrill Gardens and parent R.D. Merrill Co., won in the large business category. The companies were cited for innovative business strategies, company performance and community contributions.

Dahe Good has joined Homestead Capital of Portland as vice president of acquisitions, and Leah Taylor is Homestead's first director of acquisitions and community development. Homestead Capital is a nonprofit syndicator that forms investment partnerships with major corporations, reinvests the capital it raises in affordable housing projects, and delivers tax credits to the investors. Since it was established in 1993, Homestead Capital has raised almost $250 million to fund approximately 2,500 housing units.

John L. Scott

John L. Scott Real Estate surpassed its 2002 volume sales on Tuesday, making 2003 the 72-year-old company's most successful. The company did not release actual figures. In other news, John L. Scott has opened a branch in Sammamish at 22841 N.E. Eighth St. It's the company's 121st Northwest office and 29th in King County. Broker Dennis Schauls, who returns to the company from Windermere Real Estate, is the office manager. The office has 15 agents and has plans to grow to 38. And the company has promoted Marianne Barkman as senior vice president of leadership development and Ron Howard as senior vice president of Washington Residential Operations.

Windermere

The Woodinville office of Windermere Real Estate has adopted the new community center at Greenbrier Heights, a housing project. The 1,800-square-foot center is to open in January. Windermere agents and employees will get donations for the center and mentor youths who participate in center programs.

Lorig Associates

Loo

Lorig Associates has hired Richard Loo as project manager focusing on feasibility and design team management. He previously designed and managed projects for Mithun Partners and Johnson Braund Design. While at Mithun, he managed Lorig's Ravenna Court project and the Cremona-Dravus residence facilities at Seattle Pacific University.

Paragon Real Estate Advisors

Saint Newton of Paragon Real Estate Advisors represented Robert Holmes, who sold the 58-unit Marnice Apartments, 1031 75th St. S.E., in Everett for $575,000 to Orlo Williams, whom Paul Mickley, also of Paragon, represented.

Marcus & Millichap

Pauline Spyridis sold a 6-unit apartment at 412 N. 45th St. in Seattle to Mr. and Mrs. Jonathan Slavin for $650,000. David J. Smith of Marcus & Millichap represented both parties.

International Council of Shopping Center

Rick Yoder, owner of The Triple Door, is guest speaker at the International Council of Shopping Center social at 4 p.m. Dec. 3 at The Triple Door, 216 Union St. Yoder will discuss the challenges of redeveloping the night club below his restaurant, Wild Ginger.
