Nearly 80 small businesses have been nominated for the 2002 Mayor’s Small Business Awards. From storefront to waterfront, the nominated businesses represent nearly every Seattle neighborhood. Nominees include Ridolfi Engineers, Seneca Real Estate Group, Bush Roed Hitchings, Seaborn Pile Driving and PCT Construction. On May 9, 10 firms will win this year’s award. The ceremony will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Bell Harbor Conference Center. For tickets call (206) 297-6801.

Starbucks signed a lease this month to occupy a 1,700-square-foot retail space on the ground floor of Kearney Plaza, a mixed-use apartment/retail project developed by Hoyt Street Properties in Portland's Pearl District. Starbucks plans to open the coffee store in mid-June.

Phil Cyburt and Colette Temmink will tell Boeing Realty's story at the May 9 lunch meeting of Commercial Real Estate Women. Cyburt is the Los Angeles-based head of the Boeing Co. real estate subsidiary, which is selling and developing the aerospace giant's excess properties. Temmink is vice president of development, based in Seattle. The meeting will be at the Bellevue Club, southeast of downtown Bellevue. It begins at noon. For information, call (206) 361-6859.

Hotel Lucia, a new Portland boutique hotel opening May 13, will permanently feature a collection of 680 photographs by Oregon native and Pulitzer Prize winner David Hume Kennedy. The photos will be displayed in public areas and in the 128 guest rooms. The hotel, located in downtown Portland, bills itself as the "hippest hotel" in the city.
