Description
Perched on a bluff overlooking the Valley of the Spokane River and
its falls, the Cheney Cowles Museum preserves and interprets regional
and Native American histories as well as the visual arts.
The 85,000-square-foot expansion and remodel includes:
exhibition galleries, a 160-seat auditorium, administrative and curative
offices, museum shop and café, meeting rooms, archives and collection
storage, a parking structure for 125 cars, amphitheater with 250-plus
seats, and a sculpture garden and community park.
Galleries and collection storage are underground to reduce
the building’s mass and create a park-like setting compatible with the
residential context of the neighborhood.
